Today I am grateful for:

Another lovely day temperature wise. The end of this week is supposed to be colder, but I have deeply enjoyed this respite.

I went to see River, and that went well. I am still getting the feeling from him that his thoughts are elsewhere, likely the hay that is usually delivered as I am working with him. It is hard to compete with that.

R was riding with us, which is a nice change.

We made one try at the gate with just the neck rope and did it (still awkwardly), so I left it there.

I find it odd that people seem to think of music that is ten years old is "old", but they don't say anything if you play something much older like David Bowie. Twice now at the barn, people have commented on a song "going way back" that is newer by far than the other songs on my playlist. Maybe because they can actually remember when it first came out and that seems like a long time ago?

Most of what I listen to is old music, because even the newer music I like is not new. The White Stripes is pretty old stuff now, as is most of The Black Keys, Daft Punk is old, even the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is older stuff. While I do like some new music, I don't own a lot of it. P.S. I am unlikely to listen to Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, or Nicky Minaj while I am riding.

His fascination with the gym mat that is used as an obstacle (because it is an unusual thing to stand on) makes it hard to get him to do other things. He likes standing on it so much that at liberty he will wander off to find it instead of staying with me. It is out right now because it is part of the obstacle course everyone is practicing.

Earl is still there, curled up with Ruby. For now.

I came home and had a nap.

There is some meme circulating around about the Appalachian Mountains being "older than bones, older than Saturn's rings" etc.

The rings of Saturn are only about 100 million years old, and will likely be gone in another 100 million years.

The Appalachian Mountains are older than the Atlantic ocean, demonstrated by the fact that the American mountains match mountains in Europe, which then moved apart as the plates moved apart.

The Appalachian Mountains are older than bones, meaning the organisms that existed had not evolved bones yet. Bones are believed to have emerged about 400 million years ago.

Though I've seen some other sources say that bones are older than that.

The Appalachians began forming about 480 million years ago, and wore down, got built up again, wore down some more, etc.

David Bowie will never be old; David Bowie is classic, timeless.

Some music sounds dated more than other music.
The only new music I find interesting lately is Harry Styles's stuff.
