Jan. 29th, 2023 01:01 amToday I am grateful for:
Though colder, a reasonable day.
Getting to wear a sweater that I rarely rare, with a scarf that looks nice with it.
We went to the city today. Mainly to get tiles for the down stairs bathroom.
This could have been frustrating for me, as we tried to do this before Christmas, and I just shut down over the endless parade of options.
I HAD chosen a pattern at one store at that time, after over an hour of setting up parameters as one after another were ruled out by my husband (No, not that one, too hard to cut to fit. No, not that one, the pattern won't work after we cut it in half. No, not that one, too hard to grout). I HAD CHOSEN A PATTERN. Then my husband was like, okay, so you like that one. How about we look at some other stores and think about that one for a while?
So, here we were, back at another store, looking at tile that was way too expensive and nothing I liked.
FINALLY, keeping my cool, I just turned to my husband and said "well, I am ready to go back to the store that had the tile I liked, and see if it is still there". So we did.
Believe it or not, I STILL LIKED THAT PATTERN. Imagine that. So we ordered it. Done. Could have been done months ago too.
So now the rest of the day was free. It was already later in the afternoon, so not THAT free, but nothing pressing.
So, I voted to go to a thrift store and just take our time there and enjoy it. He goes and looks at the books while I look around.
We didn't get a ton of stuff, some books, some DVDs, and I found a great denim skirt. Long, and full, meant to look like someone had taken a pair of jeans and opened the legs and added more denim to make it a skirt. Maybe someone did do that, but it looked pretty professional.
Then, we STILL were in no hurry, so we went and had supper at the nice vegan place that is not a chain, where the owners also support an animal rescue. We were the only ones in there, and it is kind of a homey place. It often feels like you are eating at a relative's house, someone who likes kitchy decor and little rabbit figurines. I like it. A little pricey, but great food, and probably in a roundabout way you're helping the animal rescue by giving the owners a job.
Then we came home and watched a movie my husband chose, "Real Steel", which was pretty awful even though IMDB says it was good. It had a strong cast, and there was nothing wrong with the acting or the special effects, but it was a terrible plot that was the worst kind of lazy kid's movie. Maybe a kid who had never seen a movie before would like it, but it was not one of those movies where an adult with any kind of critical thought process would have been entertained.
I learned that 97% of the people living in Argentina are of non-native decent, mostly European.
Chile has a non-native (mostly European) population as well, at about 89%.
Very few of the people who live there have a South American heritage, as colonization seems to have overtaken them.

Date: 2023-01-30 01:08 am (UTC)The downstairs bawth here still has no tiles, and it still has a hole in the ceiling where the fan cover should be. I stuck the original fan cover up there with double-sided tape, but when I returned to look at it today (and maybe touch it up) it was lying on the counter.
I could Krazy Glue it to the ceiling, but that's unwise. Maybe museum putty will work. This is getting a bit tedious.

Date: 2023-01-30 07:05 pm (UTC)The hole in the ceiling has not been covered. The fan installation was not finished. It's time to stick a cover up (not permanently) to cover the hole, because I'm one of those people who don't like living with a hole in the ceiling for more than a couple of weeks.
