Sunday, January 30
Jan. 30th, 2023 01:52 amToday I am grateful for:
Though fairly cold, the weather is bearable. Just add a few more layers.
A very brief phone conversation with Mom. More and more she seems like she is worried about being ready for supper, and doesn't seem to be reassured when I tell her she has time to talk.
We went to see River, and timed it so that the other Sunday rider was riding with us, which is nice. She was very social and chatty today.
River did well, though he seemed to resist backing up straight today. He wanted to do sideways stuff instead. So, we worked through it and I rewarded his correct response. We had to try a couple of times to get the gate done, but when we did I left it alone. He had an especially lovely canter today, with soft transitions.
Earl is back in the barn with his friend Ruby. He has a shaved spot on his head where they cleaned the abscess out, but he seems to be in good spirits. You can tell he is feeling much better, and I am so grateful that he is doing better. I spent some time just petting him, and I think he was happy to see me too.
We came home and watched "Nope" which was a pretty good movie. I don't normally do "scary" movies, but this one was not a dumb, slasher movie. It was interesting.
That Redwood trees have shallow roots. They have no actual taproot, and their roots only go downwards about ten feet, while spreading outwards 60-80 feet away from the trunk.
