Feb. 4th, 2023 01:05 amToday I am grateful for:
Very nice temperature today. Very mild.
I got a prescription filled for Hollywood, at this vet clinic that on the surface SEEMS easy to get to (it is not that far from the riding barn), but is in a tricksy area where there is a lot of bush so you can't see it from the road, and it is hard to explain but woe betide those who miss the turn off for it. It just slowly dawns on you that you've gone too far, and if you have, Google sends you on a wild goose chase. I don't know how many times now either my husband or I have driven back and forth in that area trying to get to it. It is like some elven sanctuary that has a protective spell on it.
Well, I missed the turn off, got sent on a wild goose chase, and just barely made it to the clinic before it closed.
I hate that. I had left the yard with lots of time so I WOULDN'T get all stressed out, and I end up getting all stressed out anyhow.
I had missed my goal of being at the barn by 5 pm (there was a lesson at 7, so I wanted to have enough time to be out of the barn by about 6:45). So, then I am flustered because of the feeling that I have to hurry.
So, I tried to remain positive for River, but I'm sure he could tell what kind of day I was having.
We did okay, but I sure am tired of the gate continuing to be the challenge that it is. I do my best not to over-train on it, but is still not smooth, it is always awkward and still a lot of effort to get it right. Same with backing up cleanly between a pair of poles. He CAN do it, and often will back very nicely AWAY from the poles, but the minute we go between the poles, he starts being a dork and either tries to walk away, or side passes. Yet, later he can do it perfectly. When he does, he gets big praise and we're done.
Other than that, our work was good, if overshadowed by feeling flustered.
Then I was in the barn at the same time as the lesson, and that feels like too many people in the barn and everyone is squeezing past each other, so that felt like crap too.
While I was at the barn, the contractor contacted me to ask if he could drop off the wood for the inside of the window frames while I was away, and I said it was fine. He knows how to get into the basement by the big window. As long as he keeps letting me know when he is coming and going.
Anyhow, I got through it, so there's that.
I came home and had a nap to reset.
I learned that the company that produces mainly table ware (Oneida) began it's life as a freaky deaky super yucky sex commune. Yup. You heard me.
I guess the commune ran a business (apparently one of the things they sold was animal traps), in order to fund themselves, and when the commune ran out of steam the people that were still a part of it were all still shareholders in the business, and they decided to focus on flatware, and there you have it.
So, this is pretty freaky stuff, but here you go.

Date: 2023-02-05 07:50 am (UTC)I didn't care for it at first, but I use it all the time, especially when we need cutlery for several people. I keep it in a napkin-lined crock on the kitchen counter.
That's not the Oneida - I think the Oneida is silverplate, with a beaded pattern.

Date: 2023-02-05 09:51 am (UTC)Anyhow, I have found some gorgeous little pickle forks there, a set of fancy dessert spoons, and one setting of a nice pattern that I use once in a while for fun. They are all "high end" names.
