Today I am grateful for:

A very short phone conversation with my Mom, who was once again unwilling to talk with me for very long because she was worried about missing supper. Nothing I can say will make her feel okay; that they won't let her miss a meal.

Then a very brief phone call with Trainwreck, whose septic tank has frozen up, not uncommon in trailers. This is the sort of thing that make me feel like if she weren't a hoarder with all kinds of authority issues, she would be better off in an apartment where none of this kind of thing is her problem anymore. In fact, I don't know if I've ever heard of the septic system freezing in an apartment, because it is connected to the town/city system.

Then she said she couldn't call back to finish talking, because she had to go to bed. At 4 pm.

So, okay.

AT LEAST THE SUN WAS SHINING, and it was a little above freezing and the snow was melting a bit. I was truly grateful for that.

I managed to start the old truck up, to charge the battery. The battery is now apparently crap in that vehicle, probably because it doesn't get driven a lot. We had the charger on it to keep it from freezing solid, but starting it today and letting it run for a while will help it a lot.

I spent some time combing out Wonder's mane (one of the mares at home that I don't ride). She had a big tangle in it, so I got some detangler (since it was warm today) and got it all sorted out.

Then I went into the little town close to us (a village with not much in it for stores, but about 500 people) to walk for a while with Roxy.

I forget how awful it is to walk around and have everyone's giant "drug dealer" type dogs lunging at fences or at the end of a chain (not even sure if that's legal) at you while you walk. Very unsettling.

Otherwise it was nice to be out for a while in such mild temperatures. I appreciated what a nice dog Roxy is, she has good manners on the leash and doesn't pull, and keeps a nice little jog pace.

Then I came home, and kind of had a small attack over all the little things that need doing, but no one is doing them. Things like the endless stupid bullshit of trying to get my husband to find someone to sell the stocks that we hold in the U.S. that is now dragging on to being six months of playing email tag with a guy from the bank who isn't even going to sell the stocks for us. He is just going through our information to give us a REFERRAL.

So, what good does it do to tell my husband that maybe the bank doesn't give a shit about us, and to just bite the bullet and find a stock broker to do this outside of the bank, even though it will cost us money. Will it ever NOT cost us money to get this over with? He seems to think so, but the bank is more or less telling us they don't want to deal with this.

I wonder how long it will take for my husband to figure this out. After all, he screwed around for almost two and a half years trying to get our mortgage settled on the new house before he would even agree to talk to the bank manager about how long it was taking. It was a nightmare for me, but my husband probably would have kept believing that what he was doing was FINE for a few more years before it dawned on him that this was taking a while.

Anyhow, I'm not having a great evening, angry about all the things that are piling up that need attention or a decision.

I am cleaning the bathroom. The floor plan in there is so awful that is hard to explain, but to clean the floor you basically have to LIE DOWN WITH A RAG to get underneath the tub and the sink area to clean it. No, the space is too small to use a swiffer. I hate cleaning the floor. It is a bullshit job, and it is ALWAYS MINE.

This is not so much a clear cut factoid, but an interesting thought. We tend to think of dinosaurs as all living more or less together at the same time. At least I do. You think of a Jurassic type landscape, with all the dinosaurs you know roaming around. T-Rex, Brachiosaurus, Brontosaurus, etc. all roaming around.

I learned that Brachiosaurs were alive about 150 million years ago, and T-Rex about 80 to 66 million years ago. So there might have been roughly 50 million years between their existence, or 70 million years. You know, give or take.

Everything's ground to a halt here, too, EXCEPT that I appear to have covered the hole in the basement bawth ceiling with the old fan cover, and, with an extra bead of white glue on one corner, it's sticking. Nothing was said, but I'm cackling with glee.

AND I glued a loose slat from a bamboo mat in the laundry area, which is supposed to turn into The Beautiful Laundrette someday.

AND I found an old movie projector on the floor, outside the basement bawth - I took it to the storage area of the basement. A movie projector? How long was it there?

AND I tossed a big bag of collected hooey that would have been kicking around uncollected, perhaps forever.

HEY HO, though, the mitre saw that had been sitting on the garden bench for over a week was spirited away, back to the garage. I was delirious with gratitude.

1. The old projector is not mine, and it is practically a sin to move it to another location. But, it's joining other "vintage home entertainment schtuff" that has nothing to do with me. I think the ultimate goal is to digitize old family home movies, but it's not my call. If I had to guess, it's not ever going to go.

2. The fan cover is there only to cover a flipping HOLE where an old fan was partially installed. The fan is not functional, and I do not know who will install it properly, or when. But the shower is only used by one denizen, and the dehumidifier kicks in when it's used. It's a basement bawth, but I am very pleased to have made it look smarter - I will still put in tile ONCE IT IS SELECTED AND PURCHASED.
I know how to set tile and grout it. Experience!
