Today I am grateful for:

More incredibly beautiful weather!

I went to see River, and it was lovely working in such warm temperatures for this time of year.

He did pretty well today, sticking a bit on going around some pylons at Liberty (he did fine with it a while ago) but doing really well with the mirroring and yields.

We didn't have a ton of time by the time I got to riding, so I wanted to try the gate and backing up through the poles, he did them well enough on one take that I left it there.

K had a person in the barn for the 7 pm. lesson, and I was happy that it felt okay for me to be there. I stayed out of the way as I put River's light blanket back on etc.

I had been working on a neck rope for R (it came apart, and I ended up rebuilding it for her in a slightly different way that I think is an improvement), so it was done and I dropped it off today.

I came home and had a nice bath, and a nap.

Since some time early in Covid (winter of 2020?) I've been very interested in The 1975. Their earlier music is reminiscent of the late 1980's, but it's eclectic. It's a funny thing, with Youtube, I was able to listen to a lot of their music and interviews and it was all ten years old.

Then all of a sudden it seems like a year later, there was an uptick in their popularity, all the newer stuff shows up, newer interviews, an it's like they aged ten years in the year I started following their career. They morphed from kids to adults overnight.

I think it was spurred by Covid, and during that time the lead singer really changed a lot. The band "stayed home" and worked on an album that was deliberately more mature, the lead singer confronted his addictions and cleaned up, and it looks like they all sat down and decided they were changing their image because they couldn't have a "boy band" vibe anymore. Some of them are married now, etc.

So, they went from a very casual, boyish look to wearing suits, getting "grown up" hair cuts, and overall a much more sophisticated and adult aesthetic. Matty doesn't gyrate around on stage with his shirt off anymore, and he takes the interviews a lot more seriously.

Anyway, it's been weird to have such a compressed way to see ten years of a band's life.

Today I learned that Simon and Garfunkel used a song based on traditional Peruvian folk songs to write "If I Could".

They THOUGHT they had gotten the correct permission to use the song, but later were apparently very civilly sued by the son of the actual creator of "El Condor Pasa". It was quickly and amicably settled.

What's warm for you in February? Here, we're getting into the mid-60s (F) this week. Alas, I would keep winter weather forever if I could.
