Feb. 11th, 2023 01:19 amToday I am grateful for:
Lovely weather. I very much appreciate the increasing sunshine.
My Sweetie worked downstairs with the contractor this morning on staining the wood for our window frames inside.
I talked to a vet about River needing his teeth floated. The last time they were done, he had issues with the sedation. R has become insistent that I get his teeth done again, and I am worried about the sedation. I am talking with the vet about the risks, and what we can do to minimize them. It likely involves trailering River to the clinic where they would be better able to respond to any reactions.
I got a little testy with my Sweetie today, because he put on one of his nice sweaters that he has for work, that I JUST GAVE HIM and was going to wear that and his nice, expensive puffer jacket TO DO CHORES and then GO SEE RIVER.
He was in the habit of wearing his old sweater everywhere because it was OLD and kind of falling apart (I keep fixing it). You know what though? He still has it. He was just going to wear his new sweater and get hay in it, and horse hair, and maybe put a hole in it or his nice jacket.
So I got after him, and said that work clothes are for WORK so he has NICE CLOTHES for NICE ACTIVITIES, and OLD clothes are for chores.
He also has dozens of OLD JACKETS and hoodies that he won't let me throw away, so why would he think that he should wear his ONE NICE JACKET to do chores and go to the barn?
AARRGGH!
Anyhow. We went to the barn to see River, and it was very pleasant with the weather so mild.
R's dog kind of worried me today though. This dog (Breezy) is a rescue dog, and she is never really that comfortable around people. This dog still acts very worried about many of the clients, even those who have been coming a long time.
Sometimes R leaves Breezy alone in the barn while she does other things, as she did today.
Well, Breezy got very worried about me, and my Sweetie. She is often worried about him because he is a man, and isn't there often. She barked at us, and when we had to go inside the barn with her she acted very strange, like she was threatened, and kind of half hid but kept barking at us, raising her hackles and even growling a bit.
She often acts a little scared, but she usually gets over it after she smells my hand or sees us come in with River. Today she did not get over it, and I was actually worried she might try to bite one of us.
When R came, of course she was fine, but I made a point of telling R that she was really different today, and I hope she takes it to heart. I have often felt that Breezy's fear and insecurity need to be respected, and she shouldn't be left alone in the barn or loose in the yard.
I rode in the arena with another rider who was getting a lesson; the girl with some challenges. It was nice to see her, and she enjoys riding with me.
We came home and watched "Copshop", which was pretty bad.
I learned that in Italy, there is a coalition of businesses that do not pay protection money to the mafia, and they have a label to put on products similar to the "fair trade" or "made in Canada" labels.
