Happy Valentine's Day!
Feb. 15th, 2023 12:39 amToday I am grateful for:
Still pretty decent weather.
I really notice the different kind of light in the sun, as they day gets longer.
I did choose to return Trainwreck's phone call today (she tried to reach me a few days ago). I don't know why. It always upsets me to talk with her.
Things weren't going TOO badly, but she mentioned that she was getting ready to go to bed soon. At around 5 pm. She "sleeps" around twelve hours a night. I asked her if she had low iron levels, to be so tired all the time. She said no, she had the opposite, which is hemochromatosis. When the body has too much iron.
So I asked if she was doing anything for that, and she was kind of side-stepping it. I looked it up, and there are two kinds, one is hereditary, and the other is....of course...alcohol induced. It's from liver damage. Of course, if she does nothing, it continues to damage all of her organs, higher accumulation of lipids in her blood vessels, and higher risk of stroke.
I then also asked her if she is actually using the community center to go to the bathroom, like she suggested to Sister E, and she said "of course not. I'm not going to get up and go over there every time I have to use the washroom". So, she IS pooping in a can and dumping it out on the side of the road.
Also, my other suspicion that she is not able to haul water is correct, so she has limited water left in her tank, and is making plans to haul drinking water in jugs.
So, I said to her "you are always faced with more things not working any more. Your vehicles. No water. No working septic. Snow removal. On an on. You are missing the bigger issue here, which is just one thing. How to get out of there to a small, manageable space that you don't need to worry about hauling water or having a truck with a water tank on it, or a septic tank. ONE REAL GOAL: HOW DO I MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE."
Anyhow, that's where we left it.
I am still trying to figure out what is causing the skin irritation on Sasha the goat. Of course, being that she is a goat, once again veterinarians are baffled. She was given dewormer, and I watched to see if it was getting better, and the irritated patches are no better.
I went to see River, and that was very pleasant. I really worked on keeping things concise, breaking down that draw circle a bit and not asking for too much, and rewarding his efforts. He at least gave me a good try today, much better than on Sunday, and I rewarded it, and did not overdo it.
So, I feel like we had a more pleasant and rewarding session.
R was working with the young rescue pony, and he was having a bit of a day. He is very sensitive, and got wound up from light use of the whip (for communication, not punishment), and a bit from River being there and moving around him.
I was really proud of River being very calm while Phoenix was having his little melt down.
Now R wants to have me do more work with this pony in terms of having River in there with them more, and I'm not sure where this is headed. I said she knows when I ride, and maybe she could just sync her sessions with Phoenix to happen during my normal times?
She wants to bring Phoenix in while I have lessons, but I'm not so sure about that. I'm paying her to work with me, not paying her to work with Phoenix. If it feels like I am not getting a good lesson, I am prepared to tell her that. It's one thing if she just has Phoenix in there and he's just hanging out while I ride, but quite another if she uses that time to school him.
I know she is really busy, but SHE chose to take on a rescue, and it is not up to me to give up my lesson to give her time to work with him.
She is also kind of asking me if I want to help her work with him, and that's something we'll have to discuss in more detail. She thinks it would be good for him to get used to being handled by different people.
I came home and had a nice nap after talking with my Sweetie and wishing each other a Happy Valentine's Day.
I learned that:
On November 10, 1958, Harry Winston mailed the 45.52-carat Hope diamond in an envelope to the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. from New York City. The postage was $2.44 and the $1 million dollar insurance fee was $142.85 ($145.29 total).
Yup. Just stuck the Hope Diamond in the mail in a box in the regular U.S. Post, and it got there.
