Today I am grateful for:

That the cold weather is still within "pretty cold", could be (and has been) colder this year.

The vet did come out today to look at the goats. A different vet from the same clinic, but she is still pretty sure it's mites. The first treatment was an oral Ivermectin, to target blood sucking mites. Since the goats are still itchy, they might be "burrowing" mites which are killed by a topical medication, so she administered this today, and I will have to repeat it in four weeks.

Here's the thing; the other vet said that if the oral meds didn't work, that I would have to try the topical stuff, which I could just come pick up at the vet clinic.

He said that only if those did not work, to move on to a biopsy.

When I talked to the clinic yesterday, the person I spoke with said that there was nothing on my file about which topical medication to use, and no, I shouldn't just come get it, and that I should just have a biopsy done instead of the topical medication.

So I fully expected the vet today to want to biopsy, and she said it wasn't likely necessary.

So, I asked her if I really even needed a vet to drive out and look at them again, could ANY VET THERE just have prescribed me the topical solution IF THE FRONT DESK PERSON HAD BOTHERED TO ASK THEM, and I could have picked it up myself? It was exactly like the stuff you drip onto the back of a dog for ticks, and not difficult at all to administer.

She said, yes. I could have just gotten the vet who saw them, or her, to prescribe it over the phone.

So I asked if she could do something to lower the fee for having a vet come out, since I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD A VET DRIVE OUT EXCEPT THE FRONT DESK PERSON TOLD ME I HAD TO DO IT. The medication is likely quite inexpensive, and the fee for having a vet come out and do another exam is going to be around $150. It was completely unnecessary at this point.

Only if this fails would we do a biopsy.

Sigh.

Anyhow, I am hoping this will do the trick. The goats are quite uncomfortable. Sasha has raw spots from itching, and it is harder to tell on Brownie, but she is itching too.

After that was all done, I came back in the house and did a bunch of cleaning up things. Dishes, changed the sheets, and started cooking supper for when my husband got home.

We watched "3000 miles to Graceland", about robbing a casino during an Elvis look alike week in Vegas. It was good.

I learned that Enya has never toured or performed in public, in spite of selling millions and millions of albums. It is mainly because of the layering of her vocals, which would have been difficult to replicate in a live performance. She does say that it could be done now, with modern equipment.

Did she said that they wouldn't charge for the 2nd trip to the goats? It seems perfectly reasonable to me for them to waive the fee!!
