Today I am grateful for:

Very lovely weather today. Bright and sunny, and warmish.

A neighbor (who is the father of one of the people in our "work group") came with his tractor and cleared our driveway right down to the gravel. He did a great job, and I am very relieved.

Thus I was able to go to the riding barn and see River.

We had a lesson today, and that went well. We worked on the Liberty pattern (it is the next skill level) and did well with the part that was tricky the other day. Hopefully we've got it now.

Our Liberty circles are doing well, and in our ridden work we focused on moving the haunches and the shoulders separately as yields, and had an insight. I keep forgetting that horses can see us as we sit on their backs, and it likely helps River a lot if I use my gaze correctly as a cue, or at least not mislead or confuse him.

He is doing well with his bow (with me on the ground). He is learning to bring his leg back and under him on his own, rather than me holding it for him.

I had some good conversation with R's husband K, and I am glad. I don't know what caused the strange awkwardness with him this past autumn, when he seemed upset at me for being in the barn whenever he was working with his students, but it seems to have passed. For a while there, it really seemed like he was just upset for me even being in the barn at all if he was trying to get ready for a student, or one was in there tacking up, even though I was not interfering in any way. I hope it was just nerves and that he is feeling better.

I came home and didn't do much, but I felt much better knowing that the drive way was cleared and I could safely come and go from the yard again. It is not uncommon in rural areas here to get stuck in your own yard (and just as normal to ask for help getting out, it is a code out here that you help ANYONE if they are stuck either in the ditch or in their yard if you are able), but it still sucks.

Today I learned that Japan is falling prey to revising their own history, especially around their own role in WWII. The government would like to leave out things that paint a "less positive" view of the war (!!!) like the existence of comfort women, the forced suicide of tens of thousands of people in Okinawa by the Japanese government, and trying to minimize their aggression in the invasion of China during the second world war.

They say they are doing this in the spirit of peace and harmony.
