Mar. 20th, 2023 01:48 amToday I am grateful for:
More beautiful weather.
I went to see River today.
He was very concerned about something in the bush (in their pasture). It is entirely possible that there is a moose in the area, as there so often is. The horses are really against moose for some reason.
So, it did mean that he was fairly distracted in our work in the arena, as the arena is more like a big tent, and he can still look outside as the doors have translucent windows.
Having music seems to help a bit.
We ended up doing okay with our work today, though I spent some time reassuring him. He calmed down enough that I felt comfortable riding him.
We worked on the Liberty pattern, the one where I have to do all the running (sigh). My ability to run is going to be the deciding factor on whether or not we do well with it.
He is doing really well with the bowing, getting deeper into it.
I did not see the Sunday rider today, though I spoke with R briefly.
I came home and had a nap, then worked on another neck rope that requires that long, complex knot that I use for the grip.
I learned about Angélique Marguerite Le Boursier du Coudray, a midwife that saw dangerous childbirth practices in the 1700s. She made a cloth model .. with a uterus, placenta, etc…and real pelvic bones. It mimicked contractions and fluid seen during childbirth. She made textbook drawings for midwives to follow even if they couldn’t read.
What an interesting article!

Date: 2023-03-21 01:20 am (UTC)It IS cool that we're teaching River to bow. We've been working on it for a few months now, as the young woman who sometimes takes a lesson with him wanted to do it for a fundraising show (there was an open class of "fun things your horse can do). He did it for the class, but we keep working on it to get it deeper, and at some point we might be able to turn it into "lie down".
