Mar. 24th, 2023 11:02 pmToday I am grateful for:
Gorgeous weather.
Last night there were some more Northern Lights. Not as dramatic as what I saw a while ago, but still cool.
That my husband was home to help with Roxy. He took her in to the vet, and later he went to pick her up so I could still go ride River.
The surgery went reasonably well. It ended up requiring a big incision that was pretty tricky to close up because it is on her leg. They will test the lump for cancer.
Roxy will need to be sedated for a while to give the incision time to knit, and she will have to be pretty quiet for the next two weeks. She is on antibiotics, a sedative, and an anti-inflammatory for a while.
We are doing what we can, and it is difficult as always to deal with feeling like we don't have more control over the situation.
Roxy seems about as comfortable as possible in this situation. She's mostly lying down and napping, but doesn't seem overly anxious and is leaving her leg alone.
While Roxy was at the clinic, my Sweetie replaced the high beam light bulbs in my car, dropped the paperwork off for taxes, and talked to his parents for awhile.
I went to see River, and I was able to borrow R's nice bareback pad to see if I liked it and if it fit River.
I bought one last year, but it doesn't stay in place well on River, it wants to slide back. I ended up riding all winter completely bareback, but R would like me to use a pad to protect River's back.
I liked R's bareback pad a lot more than the one I bought. Hers fits better, and it stayed in place well.
River did well today, he was reasonably awake and responded more quickly to cues today. We did some elements from the next pattern.
In our ridden work, I really, really focused on my own body to deliver clear cues for the turn on the haunches, and it seemed a little better.
Then we worked a little on loading in the trailer, as it was hooked up to the truck today (to keep the trailer from shifting). I did my best to stay positive and relaxed, and to keep everything below his threshold. He did come into the trailer with all four feet a couple of times (not right into position with the divider closed, just in the trailer) with some trepidation but very little drama, and that was good enough for me.
I came home and we watched "Proof of Life" which was a pretty good movie. Back when Meg Ryan was in just about every movie made.
I learned that when a person receives a new kidney, unless there is a very good reason for doing so, the old kidneys are not removed. Thus recipients can end up with three or four kidneys.
