Mar. 28th, 2023 12:42 amToday I am grateful for:
Gorgeous weather. I love the sun this time of year. Being able to drive home from places later in the day and it is still daylight is wonderful. It feels so much less gloomy than the darkness of winter.
My Sweetie made an effort to do some tiling in the basement. He got most of it done, and ran out of tile, so he ordered some more. I was touched that he still tried, what with our concerns right now.
Roxy managed to pull off her dressing in spite of the soft neck ring, so I guess it isn't going to work.
I don't even know if we CAN keep a dressing on her leg, it keeps slipping off even if she doesn't pull at it, and it's hard to explain, but the incision goes all the way up to her belly underneath, and there is no way to keep a dressing on that higher part of her leg.
The vet said if we can't keep a dressing on it, to just keep washing it in the tub using our hand shower twice a day. Luckily Roxy likes being bathed.
I had a small melt down over the fact that the dressing won't stay on, but decided to go to town anyhow, because otherwise, what do I do, sit at home all day and stare at Roxy?
The first thing I did was go get a hopefully more effective cone. Even if I can't keep a dressing on her leg, I can keep her from licking at it.
I donated a bad of kitten food for the local cat shelter, as this pet store had a collection bin for them. It seems like the shelters are so overwhelmed right now, and they are heading into kitten season.
Then I went to pottery. I chose not to talk about Roxy today, as I just needed a break.
I noticed how SUPER CLEAN the studio was. It looks like someone came in and washed down the whole place after the recent meeting where it was decided that WE ARE NOT CLEAN ENOUGH.
There were people there, and the conversation was pleasantly distracting.
I trimmed two pieces and glazed several others, though my mind was a bit distracted. I'm hoping that they turn out okay anyhow.
I did try to be VERY CLEAN.
This is probably the cleanest pottery studio I have ever seen. Something like sixty people use this space, and you could probably eat off of just about any surface.
I did check on Roxy part way through. She is pretty content in the car, and she had lots of space in the back cargo area. I felt like it was necessary to keep her with me today.
I got done a little earlier than usual, and got some groceries.
I am very grateful to be able to get groceries, to have the means, and the physical ability.
I came home, and put everything away.
Roxy had a robust poo after eating, which is good. I found that the whole process of going outside with her goes better if we do it right before her sedative kicks in, because it means the last dose is just about gone, so she is alert and happy to go outside. If she is more sedated, she doesn't want to go outside.
I learned about unisexual mole salamanders - a group of all-female salamanders that use a unique reproductive strategy called kleptogenesis. These salamanders "steal" sperm from up to five different species of salamanders in the Ambystoma genus and use it to produce female hybrid offspring.

Date: 2023-03-29 07:18 am (UTC)We will likely get the results in another week-ish.
I would never have even noticed that lump inside her leg, except one day I wondered if she got kicked by a pony because she was being a bit of a nuisance. I was making sure she had no pain, and I felt the lump inside her leg in a place I would never have normally touched, and I wouldn't have seen it because it is hairy.
After all, who normally thoroughly investigates the inner thigh of their dog?
She was otherwise acting perfectly normal, normal appetite, normal behavior, normal eliminations. No reason to look for anything.

Date: 2023-03-30 06:27 am (UTC)Lipomas are unsightly but usually not dangerous. It's the other kind of lump that's worrisome.
