Apr. 11th, 2023 12:14 amToday I am grateful for:
Gorgeous weather. I only needed a light jacket and runners to go to town today.
My Sweetie was able to move the tractor today. Last Fall he drove it down into a lower spot in the yard, but there was already enough snow that it was too slippery to get it out of that spot. It sat there all winter, and we were unable to use it for it's intended purpose of clearing the driveway.
Today the snow was gone there, but the ground still frozen enough that he wouldn't destroy the grass.
So now it is no longer blocking my general path out to feed the horses, and back by the garage where it belongs.
He went back to his work apartment today.
I went to town for pottery class. I worked on things to be Raku fired when we have our Raku day, usually in June at a studio member's property (it has to be done outside). It requires a special clay.
I threw a vase type piece, made a bird that is meant to sit on a pole stacked with other "totem" items, which I will work on over time, and an octopus which may or may not survive (with pottery, anything sticking out like handles or appendages are risks for breaking because of differences in heating and cooling).
It was a fun evening, and this time anyhow we stuck to lighter topics. Sometimes the conversations can be kind of intense.
I was a little late getting out, and getting groceries was a bit of a rush, with only 15 minutes before it closed. I didn't need much, so it was run in and fill a bag and run out.
I am very grateful for getting groceries, for being able to do pottery, and for the gracious company of the other people there. It is a very good place for me to be able to be social.
I learned about Tangier Island, a community of ~500 off the coast of Virginia that live on a sinking island and speak a unique form of Old English.

There is one woman I have mentioned, that I get along with really well that makes all the difference, and now the person that I was fairly close friends with a few years ago is in this group, and we talk a lot too.
I don't necessarily just get along with everyone at pottery, or at least not everyone is warm and chatty. I've just managed to find a few.
So far though, it isn't quite translating to friendship beyond the pottery studio, but maybe with the one lady?
As far as at the riding barn, R is often nice to chat with, but it's hard to say that it's friendship. I am her client. I imagine that if I no longer were a client, she would be friendly if we met somewhere, but it's not like we'd hang out.
Same with the others at the barn. They are nice people, and I enjoy talking with them. I know it isn't the kind of friendship that would mean doing things together outside of the barn setting.
That's been something in the last decade or so that has hit home for me. I don't seem to be making new friends. Not the real ones that you can call up if you're having a bad day or who would go out for supper with you on your birthday.
I have to pay money to be part of a group somewhere to have these very shallow, conditional friendships that exist in a very limited way.
