Apr. 14th, 2023 12:31 amToday I am grateful for:
While not as balmy as last week, still warm enough to get away with a light jacket and shoes to go to town.
I truly enjoy wearing lighter clothes to do chores and such, as my barn coat is a heavy beast.
I had an appointment for Roxy today, to get her stitches removed, and I wanted the vet to check some odd lumps (they're fatty deposits, thankfully).
I was very relieved to hear that those were just normal fat lumps. They weren't very prominent, and I likely wouldn't have been concerned but that she did have a tumor removed.
There is a small potential of finding other cancer, though it is low since the vet said it was a self-contained lump that showed no sign of spreading (clean margins).
The vet did remove the stitches (they were in longer than most, because the leg moves so much and the skin was tight, she wanted to make sure it was closed up). She said it would be a bit weepy and pink because the skin might pull a bit with the stitches gone. She wants Roxy to wear a cone for at least a week still.
Today was one of those odd days where everyone was SUPER NICE, and not just at the vet clinic where I'm sure they sensed my grateful energy. Maybe I was putting out something people responded to, like they knew somehow that I've been through some shit lately. We probably wear that kind of thing on our sleeves without realizing it.
I stuck my head into that new tack shop to buy the fly mask I saw last time on consignment. It was only ten dollars, and the exact same model that I got for River last year and paid over $40 for.
Then I took Roxy for a walk around the man made lake. It was nice to get out and walk with her, and the first longer walk since she had surgery. She would likely have been fine walking, but I didn't want to risk tearing more skin or opening her stitches. I've been walking her a bit more this past week, but the first two weeks I didn't let her do much.
I did a bit of retail therapy at Winners's.
Then I got groceries, and did a bigger trip since my trip after pottery on Monday was really rushed.
I was kind of sad to see that it looks like this store (which has a crafts/office supply section that dabbled in nicer art stuff) is discontinuing most of the nicer art supplies. There was a small package of nice cotton watercolor paper that I've been using. Not really cheaper or better than what I could get in a proper art supply store, but it was convenient because I already get groceries there. Also discontinuing a package of blank cards with envelopes that were a surprisingly nice quality (I make a lot of simple cards).
I got a few of each on their discounted price, which should still last me quite a while. Not that I'm exactly "LOW" on stuff like that.
I came home, noodled around on the computer, and just felt weird about trying to allow myself to feel good about Roxy being okay. It's hard for me to relax after something like this.
I learned that the Appalachian mountains are actually the same mountain range as the Ouachita Mountains of North America, the Highland Mountains, and the Little Atlas range of Morocco, Africa. When the continents were all part of Pangea, they were all part of the same mountain building episode, and the formation together is known as the Central Pangean Mountains.
