Today I am grateful for:

Decent weather.

My husband's support of efforts to care for animals.

I got up feeling a lot of "weight" over all of the things that other animals need, now that I can relax a bit about Roxy.

Sasha the goat, who has the skin issues that were presumed to be mites is still not improved after two vet visits and two treatments intended for A) sucking mites and B) skin-eating mites.

The next step is now a skin biopsy that will look at other possibilities like vitamin deficiency and fungus.

So I've made an appointment for that.

Then Hollywood needs her teeth floated. This is just routine. She's very old and has bad teeth, so it has to be done often.

While the vet is here, I want to start looking at Ursula the pony. She came to me with a bit of limp from what I presumed was an old injury, but I want to see if there is anything that can improve it.

I wonder if we renovated the basement, and just offered someone a free suite down there, if we could attract a live-in vet that would just flat out give us vet services in lieu of rent. After all, rent is expensive!

Then I did some dishes, and a load of laundry (I was down to just the really weird underwear that you're not sure why you still have them) as a way of feeling like there was SOMETHING I could influence.

I went to see River, and I showed R my notebook. I told her it was to help me keep track of my progress and to remember what I want to work on for lessons and during lessons we can use it for her comments. All of which is true. I hope it also helps R to see when we've been stagnant and not moving forward.

I did use my notebook to record what we worked on today, where I thought we needed to improve, and what exercises we did (I do stretches with him after we ride).

I thought he did well with everything except for the turn on the haunches, but only to the right. To the left he was great, to the right he was not very responsive to my cues.

I worked on getting him to walk with more forward energy beside me; he has a tendency to really dawdle.

He did well with the ridden work, and oddly he was reasonably good with his turn on the haunches to the right when I was mounted.

Then, R asked me if I wanted to stay for the lesson (this is the young woman with challenges) since this person's sister wasn't coming, so it's nicer for the young woman if there is someone else there to be social.

I worked with the rescue pony Phoenix, and it was so different from River. He's actually a very clingy pony, always trying to come in to you. When you're trying to lead him he's trying to rest his head on you, and is in your space a lot. He's not aggressive but just a bit insecure, I think.

It was like trying to play baseball with a kid who wouldn't go far enough away from you to throw the ball to him and he kept trying to hug you.

Anyhow, it was nice to get a chance to work with him again. He'll be going to his new home hopefully at the end of the month.

I came home and didn't do much, just ate and had a nap.

I learned that the production for "Mork and Mindy" had to hire a censor that spoke 4 languages to keep track of Robin Williams secretly trying to slip in swear words in other languages during filming of the show.
