Today I am grateful for:

Decent weather. Still cooler and grey, but okay.

My Sweetie got up to help load the rails for the vet that wanted to buy them.

That situation got a little weird, though I think it resolved okay. When he was at our place doing the biopsy on Sasha the goat, he noticed the rails and asked to buy them. He said that he had recently paid $13 a rail or something, and asked if I would take $11 for ours. A quick call to my husband and he said sure.

Then the vet texted back the next day and said he found some rails for only $10.50 each, would I accept $9 a rail?

Well, it was him who wanted our rails in the first place because they were otherwise sold out locally. He could either buy them at the one store for $16 apiece (I called around to check) or wait to see if the other store that was sold out got more (when I called though, they felt that the new price would be higher).

The rails we had were more or less new. They were never used, and still in the bundle, and would be WORTH as much as any store price right now, especially since this is a high demand season for fencing material.

I felt kind of annoyed that he would offer that much less than the CHEAPEST price he got, and now they're sold out and have no idea when or if they'll get more in, and the price will likely go up.

So I offered him $10 each, and really, that's a heck of deal for something we didn't really even need to sell. It's kind of doing him a favor.

He took it, but it was awkward. After all, he was the one who really wanted those rails, I didn't even have them posted to sell.

Anyhow, they sold, we likely didn't lose any money on them, and we were considering selling them at some point.

Hopefully he sees that it was a fair deal.

Then we went to see River. The new bareback pad seems to be a good fit, and it stayed in place well through all our groundwork and when I rode. Hopefully this does the job of protecting his back.

He did well on our groundwork/Liberty, though we are still struggling with getting him to do smaller circles on one lead on the ground.

The rest of the work was pretty good, and his leg was good today still.

Then we stayed because R asked if I would work with Phoenix again during the next person's lesson (groundwork only). It is the young woman with health challenges; it was only her (not with her sister, so there's space for another horse). She likes having other people in during her lesson because it is more social.

It's good for Phoenix to have other people work with him, and good for him to work while there is a lesson going on because it helps get him used to having distractions and noise and movement.

He did well with me today, and I worked on getting him to carry himself better and not lean on me during leading and so on. He did better with all of that.

It was nice chatting with R throughout the lesson a bit, and while cleaning up after finishing.

We came home and watched "The Night Before", which was a goofy Seth Rogen movie, but it was actually a lot of fun. They don't all have to be Oscar winners.

I learned about Octlantis and Octopolis; two colonies settled by Octopuses (not octopi). They are not normally considered to be social creatures or colony builders, so this is a novel behavior.
