May. 7th, 2023 03:03 amToday I am grateful for:
A little cooler today, and some clouds, but no rain here yet.
R let me know that the fire closest to the barn is considered to be under control, and at this time they are no longer on standby to evacuate. Whew.
We went to the city today, kind of to celebrate my Sweetie's birthday that fell during his work shift.
We poked around in the ReStore, and didn't find much. Nothing for the house, just some books.
Then we went to a dedicated lighting fixture store that was so full of light fixtures there was pretty much no way I could make heads or tails of any of it, and really couldn't come up with a decision. We need a couple of ceiling fans, and so far the ones we've seen in the box stores like Home Depot are kind of meh. I didn't really feel anything for the ones at this store either, so maybe ceiling fans are inherently either boring or ridiculously over the top.
This store was CRAZY. There were some light fixtures that were just showers of crystals ten feet tall. Where would that even go? A hotel lobby perhaps? One area felt more like an art installation than a place for actual household light fixtures, and while it was fascinating, it wasn't useful to us.
Then we went to the used bookstore that takes trade ins. I brought in some books and some DVDs (they sell those too) and they took them all. Not a huge amount but it knocked down the price of what we bought today.
Then we walked in a nice park for about half an hour to kill a bit of time before we met up with his adult cousin and her partner.
We met them at a place we've eaten a couple of times, which is nice, and also vegan.
It was good seeing them, and they're not sure how much longer they're going to be living in this city, as her partner has a very specific career that means he is valuable, but oddly there are not always positions for him.
They're both in medical positions, and are somewhat nomadic. His cousin has worked with Doctors Without Borders overseas, lived in Quebec for her training, and now lives near us, but doesn't seem settled. Her partner will likely end up working in Saudi Arabia for a year or more, though it sounds like she is staying in Canada but will visit him until he comes back or..something.
I really didn't think doctors/nurses moved around like that.
Anyhow, it was very nice to see them, and we're going to try to meet up with them again before they leave.
We came home and watched "Horrible Bosses 2", and it was funny.
I learned about Sea Spiders, which are not true arachnids, but are classified as chelicerates (of which includes arachnids, horseshoe crabs, ticks, and some extinct creatures). They can have eight or twelve legs, and have a wide distribution.

Her food and housing were pretty simple there, and she sure isn't a "precious" kind of woman. No long fake nails and high-maintenance life for this lady.
