If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?

Probably what I'm already doing. Looking after animals. Doing Liberty with my horse.

Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?

Most of how I live isn't going against any strongly held personal values. I am agnostic, and tend to lean towards Humanism as a philosophy, and I pretty much live that way.

I am vegetarian, and probably could ethically go towards being full vegan if it wasn't so difficult.

I am fortunate that my husband supports my value of animals, and I am able to care for them fairly well.

I am fortunate to be able to live in a rural setting, which is what I wanted.

There are a few things that I would like to do yet, but it's not in conflict with a belief system.

I would say I am mostly getting to live in alignment with my values.

If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?

Well, I'd already be dead. Or, I guess I would either be revered for being an elder, or tossed out onto the street depending on the culture's view towards elders.

I might have lived with less stuff everywhere, since I wouldn't have felt the same feeling of "needing it someday". I mean, I barely got going on the accumulation of goods until I was in my late 30's.

I think all along I would have had a greater sense of urgency, or maybe I would have actually felt like there was no point in even doing some of the things we did after 30, thinking we'd be too old to bother.

To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? Well, I got to pick my husband, as it wasn't an arranged marriage. I chose not to have children. Within certain parameters (like work being the determining factor) we found places to live.

I actively MADE choices that meant making more effort, like going to college and moving to Wyoming with my now husband and working on that house so that it got us enough money to buy our acreage when we sold it.

I had to actively overcome a lot of personal fear to get my driver's licence.

THEN we made an active decision to replace the old trailer with our current house, which we moved onto our property and have been working like crazy on it for the last few years.

I've made active choices to go to pottery, take riding lessons, and to paint at home.

I chose to have several animals.

I chose to eat better to manage my health and weight a few years ago.

I chose to stay away from smoking, most drinking, and drugs.

I can't control everything, and a LOT of my life feels like it "just happened" to me, but I try to engage with my life and make active choices to make things better when I can.

I get opportunities almost every day to make decisions that will make things better or easier down the road.

Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?

Some things I am worried about doing things "right", like looking after my animals or when we do work on the house, or when I drive, and so on.

Of course I also want to do the right things, like being kind, finding better ways to BE, understanding things before making judgement calls, trying to live in an ethical way, etc.
