May. 13th, 2023 11:31 pmToday I am grateful for:
Beautiful sunny weather, and not TOO hot.
I could be at home today and try to get something done here.
I made a phone call to order some hay cubes and bedding for the animals. I have heard and read that we may have a "wood pellet" shortage this upcoming winter (the kind for pellet burning stoves). The war in Ukraine means that parts of Europe that would normally get wood pellets from Russia won't be getting them, so they will get them from Canada instead.
A jump in the demand for ANY kind of wood pellet will likely create a chain reaction where other products like animal bedding will go up as well. I'm trying to buy those things NOW, before it all goes up.
I will still need to buy pelleted animal bedding, which I use for cat litter. This place didn't have them in stock.
I did some more laundry today, and farted around a fair bit.
Then I worked in the garden pulling up dandelions and quack grass. I have to do this before I can even till.
Then I drove the truck over to the barn and loaded the six square bales of hay that had mold on the bottom, so that I can use them as garden mulch.
Then I came in and had a bath.
I learned that the Pony Express only operated for 18 months.
What I can't get over, is the sheer amount of organization and horses and buildings that were massed for this effort, for such a short period of time.
