May. 15th, 2023 11:58 pmToday I am grateful for:
The farrier came. Her price went up a bit. Sigh.
She does a good job though, and she's patient with my poor old mare who has Arthritis, and can't keep much weight on her bad leg when the farrier has to pick up the other front. This farrier gives her lots of breaks, and we got creative about how to use a low wooden block instead of the normal farrier stand and so on.
Talking with Trainwreck, and it wasn't TOO depressing. She's still going on about cleaning out the big shop and the yard and so on, and isn't focusing at all on just getting that trailer empty and deciding what she can take with her.
She is getting an adult nephew of ours to help her apparently, but again, why bother cleaning out the shop and the yard? The guy who wanted to buy it said HE would clean it up. She needs to focus on being ready to move this fall.
I went to town, and I went to pottery. I didn't make anything or work on glazing, I just went to pick up a few things I knew would be finished, and to socialize for a little while.
Three of the four items were REALLY nice, with one kind of dud. That's not bad. The ones that were good were really good, so it evens out.
This one is meant to look like "horsehair" pottery.

I went to Winner's and found a nice pair of summer pants.
Then I got groceries, and shopped for some food to take home. I do this because in small towns, the cost of everything is higher, and not much selection. I figure if I take several cans of vegetable soup, I can live on that for a few days if I have to. I also shopped with my husband in mind, since he will be home looking after the animals while I'm gone, and a few things so that I don't have to rush out and get food as soon as I come back.
I learned that Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States. The over three million residents are indeed United States citizens, but they cannot vote for President, and do not pay Federal Income Tax. They only have a non-voting representative in Congress, and they vote for their own Governor, which is not the same as the Governor of other States.
Their political status is a huge topic of interest and debate, especially since it brings into question things like to what degree should the United States help them in time of natural disaster, as happened recently.
Basically they are completely disenfranchised politically, and exist as some kind of resort playground for the rest of the United States. A vassal state with no voice.

Date: 2023-05-16 04:40 pm (UTC)I especially like the grey speckled one, which reminds me of the kind of donburi bowl I am trying to find.
I spoke with our trainer. She will come the Sunday after this one. Her prices are very high. Since I'm the one who insisted I'd buy proper obedience training for Mungo, I'm going to stick to it. I'm sure it is well worth it, even at a cost that's hard to bear.

Date: 2023-05-17 05:08 am (UTC)We had a lot of fun making those as a group in pottery together, and it led to a lot of joking around about the comparative sizes/shapes of the breasts. One woman was our designated judge as to whether or not the boobs looked right.
You're looking for a rustic looking bowl?
Sigh about the costs for your trainer. You're doing the right thing in ensuring that Mungo is trained correctly, but I feel you.

Date: 2023-05-19 03:23 am (UTC)I am looking for a handmade (somewhat rustic) donburi bowl. It has a classic shape. The one I had was perfect, but a denizen chipped it. I didn't feel like Kintsugi-ing it, but perhaps I should have.
Instead, I am looking through the thrift shops in case I find another.
