Today I am grateful for:

A lovely day weather-wise.

Getting a fair bit done today.

I am hoping to leave to visit family tomorrow, so if I don't post for a few days don't be surprised.

Going away means a lot more than just packing like a normal person. I am trying to figure out how I am going to eat in a hotel room. I probably COULD stay with family, but with people I have not really been that close to as an adult, and I would find it awkward to be in someone's home and have so many "special needs". I am taking food with me that I can microwave at the motel.

I also ended up trying to get the house in good shape before I leave, so that my husband doesn't have to do much. Things like a complete change of the cat litter, doing up all the dishes, changing the sheets, doing and putting away laundry, and so on. I often do this kind of thing every time he comes home from his job so that it's clean, and then we don't have to do as much once he's home.

He's hopefully going to do a few things at home outside, so the better I can leave things for him, the more he can focus on that.

As I mentioned a while ago, my husband was shopping for a new to us car, and found one. He was thinking I could take it for the trip home as the gas tank is larger than in my car.

He had to go to register it and so on, he drove it home and left his old car in town...and then we drove BACK to town to get it.

Well, we pull in to the car dealership to pick up the old car, and guess what? Flat tire in the NEW car. We were able to get air into it, and because it was after 6 pm, there was not a single tire shop available to fix the tire. We had to hope we could get home on it safely, and so that meant not doing anything else in town, just turn around and go home.

For whatever reason, my husband didn't want me to drive our old car home (and he would still drive the new one home so we'd have both cars at home again). I've driven it a lot over the years, but he was all like "the steering isn't great, I wouldn't want to make you drive it home today". It was baffling. So now he's going to have to get a friend to drive him to go pick it up.

Basically, we drove to town to PICK UP HIS OLD CAR, and turned right around and went home.

It wasted about two hours, when I really didn't have two hours to waste today.

The air got us home safely, though really, what would we have done if it wasn't enough? He looked at it, and right away he could see that the air valve on the tire was damaged so that if it got bumped it would lose air.

My husband DID have the summer tires for this new car (came with it) and he put those on. He was supposed to have the dealership do that for us before we brought the car home, but they forgot.

What a mess.

I've decided though, that I will just take my car to visit family. I figured that this new to us car might have something we don't know about go wrong with it, and at least my husband would be in a better position to get it fixed, than if it left me stranded on the highway in the middle of nowhere.

SO. That meant that I now had to clean out my car. It's always full of horse stuff and dog stuff, so I took all of that out and cleaned it. For whatever reason, I usually clean whatever car I'm driving home out, because I just want to have a clean car for that trip. Maybe in case I have to drive family around or something. My car is usually pretty filthy, what with it functioning as my "farm vehicle". Dusty, muddy mats, animal hair, granola bar wrappers.

Then I loaded some of what I'm taking home; a bunch of pottery. I try to give away some every year otherwise it builds up.

Then I packed clothes, and tried to organize food and so on. I'm mostly done, and it shouldn't take long to finish up tomorrow.

I'm exhausted, and that business with driving to town for NOTHING was just a stupid waste of time.

I know my husband did his best, and it's not his fault. Really though, I feel in my gut that I shouldn't take an unknown previously owned vehicle on a trip like this. Wait until we've driven it on shorter drives for a while to see if it has any surprises.

I learned that the search for the wreckage of the Titanic in 1985 was mainly a cover to find two missing U.S. nuclear submarines.

It is very thoughtful to think of your spouse's comfort.
