Jun. 4th, 2023 02:10 amToday I am grateful for:
A lovely sunny day again.
The moons aligned and my Sweetie and I got a TON done today.
He went to the dump close to us to get rid of a load of branches. Then he came back and loaded it with the old freezer, and old furnace, and all of the recycling. Since we were getting rid of an appliance, we had to take that to a different dump farther away. Our local transfer site won't take them.
We barely got to that dump before it closed at 3 pm, and they want you OUT by 3. We had to huck the hooey in a hurry.
I had the presence of mind to get a whole bunch of huge cardboard boxes from patio furniture from the cardboard area, because I use cardboard for a weed barrier.
Which led to the next step, which was to stop into town on our way back and pick up a cube of cedar mulch.
I wanted to mulch an area near the house that we did cover with a tarp to kill the weeds last year. I don't want to mow there any more as it is an area where there are some cables, the top of the well, and a power pole. I always have to be so careful in that area, and I can't mow close to that stuff, so it always looks shaggy no matter what I do, so instead I wanted to just mulch it all.
So, in a fairly superhuman manner (since we had already had a fairly busy day making a huge dump trip and so on), we pulled up what weeds and grass had sprung up at the edges of the tarp, tilled the area so we could level it a bit, laid down all the cardboard, and covered it with the mulch.
I know that there will always be a bit of grass or weeds in the mulch, but it should be a big improvement.
It's really nice to have everything fall into place like today, and we got all the materials lined up to actually GET SOMETHING DONE. I can at least look at that spot now and feel like we accomplished something tangible.
I watered the garden while we did the mulching.
Then we came in and watched the new "Dungeons and Dragons" movie, and it was great! So much fun. You don't need to be a gamer to enjoy it, but my husband is a bit familiar with the game and he enjoyed it because he understood it a little better than I did. It's pretty family friendly and funny.
I learned that Studebaker planted thousands of trees to spell out "Studebacker" so that it could be seen from above. The company no longer exists, but this logo lives on, and it is listed as a notable landmark by the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
