Jun. 12th, 2023 11:47 pmToday I am grateful for:
Getting good sleep.
My Sweetie ended up working out of an office in the city today, and he said that was kind of weird because it felt so makeshift. He said it was okay, though.
I went to town, and bought some more bedding plants that were 50% off. They look fine, just going to outgrow their containers soon.
Then I went to a different store, the one where I had such a crappy experience at last week when I bought a paddling pool, thinking "well, maybe they aren't going to be awful this time". Well, the customer service sucked WORSE.
I wanted some little house plants to maybe go in a terrarium, and they were all pretty much dead. I went over to the customer service counter to ask if they had any in the garden area, and the crusty woman behind the desk literally pointed over to the dead plants and said "that's where the house plants are" and turned her back on me to keep rooting around in whatever she was doing.
I was STILL TALKING TO HER...so I said "well, I don't know if you care or not, or if anyone cares, but all of those plants are dead, so I thought you might want to know". She didn't even look at me and muttered "okay".
So I called her on her behaviour. I said "You actually turned your back to me and ignored me while I was trying to talk to you!".
SHE WORKS IN CUSTOMER SERVICE.
She turned around me with an angry scowl on her face and said "well, you were done talking, you told me that they were dead, so I said "okay", what more do you want?"
So I just laughed in disbelief, and said "never mind, I'm sure you're not interested", and walked away.
This store is a Canadian Tire, believe it or not. A fairly big chain in Canada.
I think from now on, I will do my best to not do business there, and tell everyone I know what a horrible experience I've had there.
I decided to go to pottery today so that I could trim some things I made last week. That was nice, I was the only one there for a while, then one other person showed up and we chatted. That was really nice.
Then I got groceries, and also found some little plants that might work for my terrarium project.
I came home, and my Sweetie had let the animals out into their pastures for a while, and brought them back in. He helped me put everything away, then he pretty much had to go to bed.
I learned that Reddit is making all of the "today I learned" threads into private pages to allow all of the racists and jerks the freedom to have their awful opinions in such a way that does not implicate Reddit, because they are not "public" threads anymore.
I actually did not find that the posts and comments in these threads were awful, but I guess they've had a lot of problems with some pretty dark threads being created, which puts the onus on Reddit to manage and get rid of them, except Reddit does not WANT to do that, so by making everything separate private groups, it is not Reddit's problem anymore.
I learned that Louis Pasteur was able to disprove the then-current theory that life could spontaneously arise from non-living matter with his experiment on sterilized grape juice, that did not ferment (Pasteur asserted that the microbes on the skin were the agent of fermentation).

Date: 2023-06-13 07:08 pm (UTC)I feel that if the woman who is the head person in customer service treated me like that, it is a systemic issue with the store, and it will take something pretty big to change it.

Date: 2023-06-14 05:02 am (UTC)You have to hire people based on whether you feel they can work with the public or not, and make it part of your store values.
I assume that also, if the store treats it's employees poorly, and doesn't care at all about them, that will translate into hostility and lack of motivation to do their job well.
