Today I am grateful for:

MORE rain! We went from a full on drought to SO MUCH RAIN! I hope this helps the hay grow, and the farmers in general, and to contain the fires.

After a pretty leisurely start to the day, I pointedly said "let's get going on those tiles", and both of us went down stairs to work on scraping the excess adhesive material out from between the tiles, which has to be done before you grout.

It isn't looking like the grouting will even begun before he returns to work. Sigh.

It rained pretty much all day, in a fairly steady manner. That is the best kind of rain, as it will soak in and actually do some good.

We went to see River, and he was freezing.

I brought him into the arena and got him moving to help him warm up a bit, then into the barn where we dried him off as best we could and let him eat his mash. He was fine after about 15 minutes, but being soaked and cold isn't much fun.

Our work was okay, his breathing was great and he had lots of energy with it being cool and rainy.

We did a lot of equitation type work again, ridden with saddle and bitless bridle. He did a bit better with it all today, but still not really soft in the face, and still not picking up the canter from a walk nicely even though he can do it. It has always worried him for some reason, even though I'm patient with him.

Anyhow, it went alright. I think the ridden work probably felt good, as he got to warm up and stretch and use those cold muscles.

I did put a rain sheet on him, so hopefully that helps, as it looks like it will just keep raining for a while.

The Sunday rider was there, and we talked for a while. She asked if I would be interested in being a paid companion for her grandmother, who has Alzheimer's and is on a waiting list for an upgrade in care, but until then would benefit from having someone come spend time with her and make sure she eats.

I am very flattered that she thought of me, and had her grandmother lived closer, I might consider it, but the facility she is at is about 45 minutes away by car, they are hoping to have someone who can be with her for three hours each time, and visit her twice a week.

If I took into consideration the drive time, that would be about five hours each time, which would pretty much mean my whole day kinda gone for three hour's pay.

I did think of a friend of mine who might be interested, so I will talk to her and see what she thinks. It would be a much shorter drive for her.

I do appreciate being considered for such a task, though.

Then we came home and watched "The Fisher King", which was pretty good. I miss Robin Williams.

I learned that the US, didn't switch to the Gregorian calendar until 1752. By that time, the difference between their calendar and Gregorian had accumulated to 11 days. To adjust for this difference, September 2, 1752, was followed by September 14, 1752, effectively omitting 11 days.

What an amazing thing to consider, is different groups sometimes even within the same country, using two different calendars, and being as much as ten or eleven days different from each other. It must have been impossible to plan meetings and business with each other.

Grouting is not going to take a long time. It's the most satisfying part of the tiling process. Why did you have to scrape off the mastic? Was it on top of the tile surface?

It's easier if you do, say, four square feet at a time, so you can keep on top of the job.

You have to wipe the residue off grouted tiles until your rags are clean, and then again after a few minutes to make sure a "grout haze" doesn't form. It's residue.

I did an 8' x 10' floor myself, with black grout, and I didn't find it daunting. It's not a job that takes several days or anything like that.

I also retiled a part of the ensuite bawth, and grouted it. You have to be mindful and clean, but that's it.
