Jun. 24th, 2023 12:22 amToday I am grateful for:
A nice warm day. The ground is absorbing the water a bit, somewhat less spongy everywhere.
Wonder's foot seems more comfortable, it's possible that the abscess was somewhere fairly soft and let go.
I did some vacuuming before I went to see River, as well as drained and scrubbed the goat/pony water tub, and refilled it. I also cleaned out the little humidifier I got for the bathroom (for the plants) with vinegar, as you are supposed to do often.
River was having a bit of a harder time with his breathing, likely because now it is humid.
We worked on ridden work, as we are both pretty rusty with that. We were able to ride in the outdoor arena today. It's a little wet in one or two spots, but not bad.
Towards the end of our ride he was a little better at picking up the canter from a walk, and then coming down from the canter to a nice trot instead of doing a silly half trot half canter thing. I have no idea what that was about.
It's been a long time since we worked on normal ridden work, and R is having a show in about two weeks with an equitation class. I probably COULD choose not to enter it, but these shows she puts on almost feel like mandatory participation is expected unless there is a very big reason why not.
I did a little bit of work with River inside his pasture, once again to make sure he understands that going there isn't instant freedom, and mainly I wanted him to stay connected with me and not look for his friends until I let him know he could go.
I came home and let everyone out into their pastures, and I chatted with my husband who took two days off of work to go to a fund-raising bike ride for Multiple Sclerosis. My Sweetie loves to bike, and the MS society has developed a series of bike rides that you would not easily be able to do without them coordinating to make the roads safe, have check in stations, etc. It's a whole thing.
He used to do just one a summer, now it seems like he is trying to do several. He often gets people from his job site to join in, and he meets up with a friend of his (also met through work) for some of them.
Also, my husband kind of likes to be a hero, and so these bike rides tick a lot of boxes for him. There are people there who see him as the leader of their team, he raises money, he gets to push himself to bike 75 Km a day, and feel super virtuous.
I wish he could feel that way about working on our house. I guess there just isn't the same rush involved.
It's a bit like that for him when he can organize a crew of our friends to work on one big part of the house, THEN it's big hero time in charge of a team.
The hard part, is getting him to care about something small and not glamorous like just finishing the stupid bathroom, when no team is there looking up to their supreme leader, and no one but me cheers at the finish line.
I spent some time with the goats/ponies just grooming them and hanging out. Ursula (pony) really loves to be scratched all over, and we end up doing "mutual grooming" which is a big social thing for equines. Brownie the goat looks kind of scraggly right now because she is now shedding her brittle overcoat, and it looks really patchy.
Then I pulled more grass from the area where I want to mulch. At least I am making progress there.
I learned that Hitler had a weird obsession with Clark Gable, and he actually issued a $5000 reward for anyone who could bring Gable to Hitler unscathed. I mean, what the heck was he planning on doing with him?

Date: 2023-06-25 05:29 am (UTC)It seems like Hitler really liked him as an actor, but I guess because he's a horrible dictator, he's not going to be able to just MEET Clark Gable and have him over for a visit or anything. So, I guess you have to kidnap him. Right?
Then what? Force him to make German films? Keep him as a pet? What do you do with a PERSON YOU STOLE?
I know we all have crushes on celebrities, and have our little fantasies about what it would be like to meet them and such, and you always hope that your crush would fall madly in love with you or something, but I guess my thoughts were never "well, since I am loathsome, I guess I better put a bounty on his head and see if my army of tens of thousands of soldiers can just drag him over to me. Then I bet we'll have so much fun together!".
