Today I am grateful for:

Beautiful summer weather.

How good everything looks right now, after the recent rains. Everything is green and lush, the crops look good too.

A brief conversation with Sister E; their big sectional couch will not work in the house they are moving into, so they are seeking something smaller.

I went to see River, and managed to get him to the barn without him rolling in mud. Gotta cheer those small victories.

Nice chatting with the woman whose family owns the property next to R. I've never really talked with her before, and it was a little surreal to see her pulling noxious weeds in the more or less natural land next to R's horse pasture. It caught me by surprise to see her there. She's very pleasant.

Our lesson went well. We worked on trying to get a more forward trot in the Liberty circles, hindquarter yields, and picking up the canter from a walk.

What's nice, is that River is less worried about all the transition work, and being ridden with the saddle/bitless bridle. I think from now on I will have to try to ride him in normal tack once or twice a week to keep him working nicely with it; last year/this winter I was really focused on riding bareback with the neck ring, which is GREAT, but then it was too long from riding with the normal tack and he was uncomfortable with it.

I somehow did not accomplish much of anything useful at all today, though I had every intention of doing so. The timing of phone calls and such just kept interrupting my momentum, and the day got away from me.

I learned that mines around Spruce Pine, North Carolina are the source of the world's purest form of silicon sand (that is made from ground quartz rock). A series of geological processes that occurred 350m years ago caused the silicon to form almost without impurities. It is highly sought after and is probably in the device you are reading this on.

There are those days when everything gets interrupted or circumvented. Nothing much gets done. Today was rather like that here, too.
