Jul. 8th, 2023 11:22 pmToday I am grateful for:
Very much full on summer weather.
I went to town today, because I can't work on the yard all the time.
I found a nice laundry hamper with a lid, something I've been looking for.
I had a burrito, though it feels a little expensive these days for a simple burrito. Eating out just seems like a bit of a waste of money, though it's nice sometimes. These burritos are more or less just convenience food, and I'm old enough to remember when that much money would have bought you a nice meal in a place with an actual serving person on actual plates in a nice little diner, with coffee too.
I had some very good customer service in Micheal's. A nice woman who actually offered to put my cart away for me since my hands were full. You don't get that very often.
It means a lot to me when you can make a connection with the people who work in a store.
I got a call from our neighbor, letting me know that someone's cows were running amok and had been in my yard. This is actually good to know that she will do that kind of thing for me, since we don't really speak much. Last summer I went over to their place in the wee hours of the night to ask her husband would he please turn down his music (it was loud enough that I could clearly hear it in our yard), and he was mighty unpleasant about it.
I told his wife the next day that I harbored no ill will, but it was up to them if they wanted to get bent out of shape over something that was just common courtesy.
Nice that she called in spite of the unpleasantness.
When I got home, there definitely were some tracks in the yard, but it doesn't look like they did any damage. I was more worried that the outdoor animals might have gotten themselves all worked up. They can hurt themselves running around etc. They all looked fine, so that was my main concern.
The guy that owns these cattle seems to have ongoing issues with them staying in their pasture; this isn't the first time we've had them loose in our area.
I started the day feeling a lot of pressure, as usual, to try to get something meaningful done, as I am very tired of looking around and seeing things that need doing everywhere. The bare dirt that needs mulching, the hole for the trees that needs finishing, the weeds that need pulling, the grass that needs cutting, the dead branches that need removal, and on and on. It gets to me.
I did mow for an hour or so when I got home from town, and watered the garden, and let the animals out for a while.
I learned that not only do kangaroos possess a cloaca (something usually found in reptiles and birds, where both urine and feces are evacuated. This is likely because of the need for kangaroos to concentrate their urine to save water, something most reptiles and birds need to do), they have two vaginas (and pronged penis) for impregnation, and a THIRD vagina where the little embryonic roos are born.
Nature is always interesting.

Date: 2023-07-10 04:41 am (UTC)I wouldn't mind a burrito one of these days and I'd even spring for extra guacamole (which comes at a premium cost).

Date: 2023-07-10 04:54 am (UTC)I understand that eating somewhere with lovely ambiance is also an experience.
Eating a very ordinary burrito in a fast food setting is something you expect to be tasty in an ordinary way, and reasonably priced because it is not so much about a food or setting experience, but about mainly just getting some food.
I know that this last year or so, the price of literally everything is just more, but you get tired of it, especially with food because there really is no adequate explanation for the increase other than sheer greed.
