gottawonderToday I am grateful for:
A pleasant day, nice temperatures.
It absolutely poured all last night, and everything is sodden outside.
It makes for a lot of mosquitoes now.
I did the massive pile of dishes when I got up, and changed the cat litter before I went to the barn to see River. There was no point in trying to do any form of yard work, as it was all either under water or very muddy. In a way I'm not too upset about that.
River was so tired today. I'm thinking the rain storm kept him up last night. R had put his rain sheet on, and that was very thoughtful of her.
We pretty much had to work in the arena, because everything outside was far too wet.
We did more work on Liberty circles, bigger and smaller, trying to get a good forward trot, worked on getting some speed in his turn on the haunches, got a good response for the back up from behind.
I rode for a while, and got a good trot, but I still don't think we got the right lead for the canter to the right. Left is fine.
As I was finishing up, a rider who is back now after having her baby, arrived. We chatted for a while and I petted Earl the barn cat. It was nice to be social and make chit chat.
I came home and let everyone out for a while, then decided to have a nap.
I learned a bit about Colonel Sanders. He actually was a Colonel, though appointed by a governor, and did not serve in the military.
I learned that after he sold his franchise, he was angry that the new owners made changes to his food that he thought were terrible. He used to make surprise visits to the locations and throw a giant fit if the food wasn't just the way he said they should make it.
He and his wife ended up opening their own restaurant again (and he was pretty old by then) with their original recipes, and it is still in operation today in Shelbyville under the name "Claudia Sander's Dinner House" and has a non-fast food menu.
