Jul. 25th, 2023 10:15 pmToday I am grateful for:
Sunny, and a more pleasant temperature, not blazing hot. A bit of a breeze that kept the mosquitoes at bay.
I folded some clothes, and that's always fun because the cats play in them while I'm trying to fold them.
I managed to use a bunch of office paper that was going to be recycled to mulch around the shrubs I planted. I wet the paper first, and laid it down in thick layers about five sheets of paper thick. We had tons of office paper from cleaning out the file cabinet earlier this year.
I also used some cardboard in between the shrubs, but I wanted paper for right close to them.
Then I used the cedar mulch.
So, I'm not by any means done the whole mulching project, but I am done a good section of it around the shrubs.
I went to see River, and his eye is still okay. He's a tiny bit squinty with it, but no infection.
I will keep the fly mask on him now likely until the first frost,
We did okay with our work today. In general, still his usual somewhat sluggish self. He will respond, but slowly, and with minimum effort. This is something I am always working on with him, is to try to get some enthusiasm. I try to keep it interesting, change directions and gaits, try not to spend too long on any one thing, try to introduce different things like obstacles or new challenges.
I also hopped on him bareback today and just used a neck rope, since I only wanted to ride for a few minutes and didn't want to tack up for that. It's been a while since I've ridden without even the bareback pad, but it was fine.
I came home, let everyone out for a while, and also did a bit of mulching again.
I learned that in 2017, Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to the robot Sophia. This has raised a number of questions, such as whether that means she can vote, or marry, or run for office. There are a lot of disputes over whether she is actually intelligent, or (more likely) is just programmed to be chatty. A lot of people just feel that giving her citizenship is a publicity stunt.

Date: 2023-07-27 06:55 am (UTC)I've heard of people using newspapers or shredded paper, and cardboard.
I know it will break down, but it should help. The mulch on top will help keep the weeds down too.
