Today I am grateful for:

Cooler day, which feels pleasant.

A nice conversation with Sister E. Her horse is fitting in just fine at her friend's place. They now have possession of the house in town so she is starting to move things directly into the house. At some point they will have that tipping point where they will need to actually be able to sleep and eat at the new place. They have another month I think, before the new owners have possession of their acreage.

Her son is finally going to come out to the acreage before it transfers. He's been kind of a child about all of this, even though he is forty-ish. I think he's been in denial of his parents getting older, and somehow maybe he just took for granted that they would always be living on the acreage. He's been very upset about the move, but it's not like he was helping them maintain the property, and according to my sister he was only ever out there maybe one weekend every year. It's not like he was going to buy it, either.

He still had stuff out there, which mystifies me. He never lived there, he was already an adult when they bought it, but I guess that the things that were in his childhood bedroom got moved out there, and have been there for the last 20 years. I can't understand how you wouldn't be getting him to do something with it before this point.

I did my usual "Sweetie Prep" of doing up the dishes, changing the sheets, washing the sheets. General tidying, vacuuming, that kind of thing.

By the time he got home at around 6 pm, I was putting the frozen raspberries from the cookie sheets into freezer bags.

I went and picked MORE berries while he had a nap.

Then he came outside, we let everyone out for a while, and we pulled weeds and grass in the garden.

I learned about a breed of Silky chickens that are completely black, but due to a mutation called fibromelanosis, their meat, bones, and skin are black (even though their feathers might not be black. They also have five toes, where other chickens have four.

I have seen these chickens, and knew about their silky, hairlike feathers, but not about the dark skin and bones etc.

They are supposed to be super friendly and make good pets.

I've seen the chickens. Their skin is dark grey!

How nice to go berry-picking right in your own yard!

Few things in summer are as lovely as great big fresh raspberries! How lucky you are to have them.
