Jul. 31st, 2023 11:09 pmToday I am grateful for:
Decent weather. We've really had a lot of weather that really felt like summer.
My Sweetie left to go back to work today.
I went to town to go to pottery. I haven't gone for a while. Summer is sort of a period of limbo for the pottery studio; a lot of people don't do much there over the summer because they are busy doing other things. I don't go as often.
I was there by myself today, and I did throw a bit. I also recycled a few things I had made a while ago, but I really didn't like them well enough to fire.
One of the local jack rabbits was eating grass right in front of the building when I got there, and he really wasn't too worried about me. I walked within a few feet of him.
Then I went to get groceries, and the store does look more grim somehow with the new shelving, because it is taller and kind of looms, as well as being black. Just not a welcoming look.
Everything is in different places now, so it still takes me longer to find what I need, and you have this strange feeling of insecurity about being able to find things.
I managed to get pretty much everything (I think), and I am grateful as always to be able to buy food, to have the ability to do so physically, to have a car and be able to drive, etc.
I came home and let everyone out for a while.
I learned about Seneca Village, a settlement of mainly African American people, as well as some Irish and German immigrants. They did own the land, and some were farmers. Their village was seized by Imminent Domain to create Central Park.
Now of course, after a lot of time has safely passed, it is being acknowledged.
