Aug. 13th, 2023 01:38 amToday I am grateful for:
Nice, moderate temperature, sunny.
A day to try to get something done.
We went to the transfer station (dump). It wasn't a huge trip, but it got a few things out of my space as well as the household garbage. One of the things taking up a lot of space was egg cartons. We save them and take them to the woman who works at the dump, because she gives them to a woman who has laying hens and sells eggs. She reuses the cartons.
My husband brought home a ton of the cartons from his work apartment, I had a bunch, but all of a sudden it felt like they were everywhere.
We chatted with the woman at the dump for a while. I've mentioned her before, because she has now had TWO residences burned down, suspects arson from people known to her. First time was people angry at her because she was able to tie her stolen property to them, and they retaliated allegedly by burning her house down, but not enough proof to convict.
Second time, she says the neighbor wanted to buy the place first, for the land, but it was too expensive for him to afford. She says he said weird things to her when he visited, like "sure would be a shame if kids got into your house and burned it down" (that is awfully creepy). She thinks this creepy neighbor burned their house down hoping that then the property would be more affordable so he could have the land.
My husband and I WANT to believe her, but isn't this just incredibly horrible luck? Wouldn't you think that there was something else going on too? The two incidents took place only maybe two years apart, and probably fifty kilometers from each other, but within a short time span to the same person.
I wonder if there is a simpler explanation, like maybe her husband did the electrical wiring on both places and he sucks at it, or something like that. They didn't collect insurance on either place, that I know of.
Or something a lot less nice, like maybe they cook drugs. Badly.
Anyhow. We came home, and my husband moved some of the parked items around the garage so he could clear the weeds.
I worked on the mulching again while he did that, and when he was done he came and helped me.
Smaller things were done throughout the day; laundry, dishes, and I bagged more raspberries and got the ones in the fridge on to the cookie sheets for freezing.
We began watching "American Gods", a series based on the novel by Neil Gaiman. We did watch Season one when it first came out, but he found the other two seasons at the movie store, so we're watching it all again.
Good so far.
Not only did I learn that there is a new Scottish Thesaurus in existence, but that the Scottish have (so far as we know) 421 different words for snow.
