Aug. 16th, 2023 12:08 amToday I am grateful for:
A better day than yesterday, as far as rage and feeling thwarted.
I got up earlier (for me), mainly because I wanted to just get the ball rolling. When you have a day like yesterday where things didn't happen, well, then it has to happen today, plus other new things, yes? The tasks stack up if you don't do something.
I more or less made a list of what had to happen in town today, even though my husband hates lists. This was not meant to be belittling or rude, it was just meant to be a way to structure the trip.
Even as I was writing down what needed to happen, life kept shifting around us, and things had to be added.
I didn't feel like I wanted to go to town again to run errands. Yesterday was enough for me. My Sweetie figured he could manage.
While he went to town, I stayed home and worked on some things that needed attention. Cleaning in the "cat litter area", putting the turtle outside for a while, folding laundry, doing another load, cleaning the bathroom, doing the dishes, vacuuming. Things that needed doing, but apparently went mostly unnoticed.
I did talk with Sister E, the one who is moving to town with her husband. They are having movers come tomorrow to get the large items moved. She did get the interior painted, and she sounded happy that it was just finished and they didn't have to worry about it now, they could just move the furniture in and start living in it.
About the time I was getting ready to go to the barn, my Sweetie got home. It really didn't take him that long, and he said he didn't have any issues with anything, so good for him. No one needs to have that kind of a day twice in a row.
We took the truck and horse trailer to the barn so we could load River a few times.
He did well, stayed relaxed, and it was good to keep building on positive experiences.
After that, we worked in the arena for a bit, trying to hone the freestyle pattern, but that all kind of fell apart because the wind picked up and the whole fabric of the building hummed and snapped. He didn't spook, but his focus was gone.
THEN a whole family that I don't know very well wanted to come in and film their costume entry, and I really can't do Liberty work with a group like that in there trying to film. I tried not to be frustrated about it, but they kind of kicked me out without realizing that they were doing it. They might not have meant to do so, but by coming in there with kids and Grandma and Mom and trying to film, well, I can't really DO anything with that going on without interfering. At the same time, I know it's not like I am entitled to have the space to myself, so I smiled and wished them well with their filming.
We did go work outside for a while, again on the ground halt and the back from behind, which he already seemed to have issues with in spite of spending our entire session on those two things last time. He did remember again after some practice, but we are supposed to be doing this for our freestyle, where you don't get 20 minutes of "remembering" to get it right.
Well, anyhow, River was in a good mood, his breathing was good, he seemed happy enough, and I worked very hard to keep everything positive and rewarded him for his genuine efforts.
In spite of it feeling very disrupted, and nothing was done the way my routine usually happens, and I had to keep improvising and changing what we were doing and where, etc., I am happy with how relaxed River stayed through the trailer process and our other work.
R's husband K talked to me for a while, thanking me for my willingness to help them find hay (I did set them up with our hay guy, and offered our services to pick up and unload bales if they needed it, and so on when it looked like they might be short on hay). It seems that it meant a lot to him that we were willing to help (they will be able to get hay from their regular supplier after all).
Part of me is a little surprised that it was quite THAT big a deal, in that...well...OF COURSE WE WOULD HELP THEM. This barn means a lot to me, and they take very good care of River, and, well, anything they need I would try to help because of how important it all is to me too.
Still, it's nice to be appreciated.
We came home and let everyone out for a while, and I mowed for about an hour.
My husband cooked supper, and included some patty pan squash from the garden. Very tasty.
We watched some more "American Gods". It's very interesting.
In one of the episodes we watched, the gods all met at big house full of oddities like a big fun house, with a giant lit up carousel and the whole place was just wild.
Turns out it is a real house, and it has a very interesting history.
