Aug. 27th, 2023 12:12 amToday I am grateful for:
Pleasantly warm and sunny today.
I woke up a little bit early for me, so we could go to the city.
It's still frustrating for me, because I WANT to be more of an early bird, but I am tired of trying to pretend that I could be, and tired of all the judgement I feel for NOT being an early bird.
On days like this, we want to go to the city and do a bunch of things, but rarely have the luxury of time because of my late rising tendencies.
We stopped in at a kind of giant animal products store, more than a pet store, to pick up some fly repellents for the horses. We go there regularly, as it has pretty much EVERYTHING for cats, dogs, and horses.
Then we went to the bead store that is clearing out their stock, and I bought some more beads at forty percent off.
Then we went back to Fort Edmonton, because when we were there a few weeks ago, we never actually got to see the Fort itself, there was so much else to see.
We went directly to the Fort this time, and it really is cool to think of this building, and what it would have meant to people who settled in the area. There is a big house at this fort, and it really would have been a MANSION when it was built, as it had many glass windows that would have had to be brought there by boat from Europe.
It was finished inside with smooth boards (not rough logs), smooth floor wood (not planks), had proper doors, windows, fine china and flatware, and many niceties. All would have been nearly unheard of in that area, and it would have been the finest home for over a thousand miles.
We also went on the Ferris wheel. I DO NOT LIKE HEIGHTS, but this one didn't seem too big. It LOOKED like fun, but was not fun at all for me. I wanted to like it. I did not. I think it is mainly the way the seats rock. Wow, do I not like the seats rocking. Well, now I know. It wasn't just my imagination from the last time I rode a Ferris wheel over 25 years ago. I still don't like heights.
We had supper in the city, at a nice little place we've been before. Very tasty.
We came home, let everyone out for a while, and watched more "Schitt's Creek".
I learned that falcons are more closely related to parrots than other birds of prey.

This beautiful house, and the fort around it, is all a recreation at the originals were all lost to time and dismantled over the years. They are built from historical accounts, pictures, and so on. The furnishings are some recreations, and lots of genuine items brought together to try to recreate the period.

Date: 2023-08-27 11:58 pm (UTC)The sun is setting much earlier than it did a couple of weeks ago, but there's still time to pick a handful of front yard weeds...
