Aug. 28th, 2023 01:13 amToday I am grateful for:
A hot, sunny day.
My Sweetie committed to working on the insulation again today, and made good progress.
I worked on a complete water change of the turtle tank, which is no easy task (had some help from my Sweetie), and cleaned the filter canister, also changed the cat litter. The turtle tank and litter are both in the sun room, and I wanted to clean it all out.
While the tank was empty, I moved it and cleaned behind and under the stand, and washed the floor in there.
Really I should be doing this a lot more often, but the whole thing is such a big task it doesn't get done enough.
Then I went to see River, and the heat meant I took it fairly easy with him today. His breathing wasn't too bad, but in general I don't work ANY horse too hard once it's over 25 C.
We worked on our freestyle pattern, breaking down the elements rather than doing the whole thing.
Still trying to improve the circle to the right. He's doing a lot better with the back from behind, and over all quite well with it.
We practiced the new movement, the reverse change of direction. I THINK I got it, at a walk anyhow.
He did well overall today, and every time he did something well enough, as in made an effort in the right direction, I gave him lots of rewards.
Earl the barn cat, and his co-barn cat Ruby are as always, very sweet.
R's husband and daughter brought several spaghetti squash out to the barn for me to take home. We had given them some patty pan squash. The eternal gifts of squash are an important Canadian ritual.
I went home and my husband had already let everyone out into their pastures for a while, and he was just finishing up for the day.
I cooked one of the spaghetti squash for supper, and it was very tasty.
Then we watched more "Shitt's Creek". A very funny show.
I learned about the development of a typewriter for Thai; the man who created the typewriter layout decided to leave out two less-used consonants, which led to those consonants becoming obsolete to the Thai language. Kind of an amazing amount of influence on a language.

My husband thought that drilling into the concrete would be a very awful job, and I think every day he was just going out there, looked at the walls, and felt like it was too big a job to start "today".
Except that it HAS to be done by someone, and you have to start it on some day.
Now that he's started it, I think he feels less overwhelmed.
