Aug. 29th, 2023 01:11 amToday I am grateful for:
Another sunny day (though a little hot).
Perfect for my Sweetie to keep working on the insulation. He's close to being finished that stage, THEN we can move on to the siding.
He seemed okay with me going to town today to get groceries.
I did pick up the mail, and paid a bill.
Then I went to the thrift store. I went to the back of the store first to donate a bag of items (I TRY to do this), and a woman had several boxes of books. I offered to help her unload them, and noticed that one box was Louis L'Amour. I used to read those a lot as a kid, as they were popular at the time and my Mom always had a few around.
She said I could have the box, and I took them. I will likely read them, as LOTS of them are good reads. The earlier ones were best, when he was still personally writing them. After he got popular he kind of got into a rut, where he wrote a general outline and got assistants to write the actual books. Those ones are not that good after a while.
Also, it's hard to say if the store really even wants a box of old westerns, as they can be less popular these days overall.
Then I went inside the store and there were a lot of VERY nice items there today, I had a tough time being critical about what I actually would wear. Also, things are not THAT cheap, most of the things I liked were ten dollars or more. Certainly cheap compared to the cost of new items, but not cheap anymore.
Typically once I decide I'm finished shopping, I go through my cart and see if I REALLY want everything in there, and try to put back a few things.
As I was muttering to myself about "do I really need this?" an employee walked by and said "I am the voice in your head who says "YES, BUY IT ALL". She's hilarious.
She boosted my ego by saying she loved my choices (there were some good things in there today) and also what I was currently wearing, including a necklace I made.
Then I got groceries, and at least that was more moderate than my last couple of trips. We have lots of things like cereal and canned goods ahead now, so it was things like milk, eggs, and fresh food.
I came home and unloaded the car and put everything away, made supper, and we watched more "Shitt's Creek".
I learned that early on, before there were clear regulations, people sometimes mailed their children to send them to relatives.
