Aug. 31st, 2023 01:42 amToday I am grateful for:
Sunny, and warm but not blisteringly hot like yesterday.
I got a text from my regular hay guy (he provides the bulk of our hay in the large round bale format) and he has bales ready. He can deliver next week.
So, we did a bit more cleaning in the barn, getting rid of the last of the loose old hay in the barn. The cleaner the better, so that the new hay stays clean.
Then my Sweetie worked again on the insulation. I mowed the lawn for a while before going to the barn.
I'm glad he's staying on track with it, and making good progress. I know it's a tough job, and tedious to get the styrofoam to fit in all the odd places, but he's getting there.
I went to see River, and he was in a good mood. It wasn't so hot today, so he had a bit more pep.
We had a lesson, and that went well. I asked R about the right circle, and demonstrated it, and her suggestion was just to make it bigger, as the small circle I wanted was perhaps unrealistic for the time being.
We reviewed the new "backwards change in direction" and did well enough with that so we can move on to doing it at the trot. Yay!
Then we talked about using the freestyle pattern we're working on for R's small show, and using it for an ILHA class that combines a freestyle with a second half that is a formal pattern (that they will announce close to the submission date for the online show). That way I can re-use the freestyle pattern.
We worked on a theoretical pattern that the ILHA might use as their formal pattern, that includes common elements at that level. Then we did it outside in the bigger outdoor arena, since that's where it will have to be recorded (some classes are okay with an round pen sized space, other classes require larger space).
So, overall a good lesson, and it's nice that we have moved out of the feeling of being stagnant that I felt a while ago.
It comes and goes, right? Sometimes you get to work on new things, sometimes you get stuck a bit and feel like you're working on the same level without improving enough.
I came home and my Sweetie had already let everyone out into their pastures for a while.
I went straight to the garden to pick more beans. These ones are green pole beans (I planted three different kinds in different spots, staggered timing. I do that because some years one kind does better etc.).
I got a fair amount again, which is nice. I thought these ones might be planted too late to catch up, but they're doing great.
I came in, washed, snapped, and bagged them.
We watched more "Shitt's Creek".
I learned that the Meuse River forms part of the border between Belgium and the Netherlands. This creates from time to time, pockets of land that are cut off from the rest of the country as the river meanders. These isolated places can become "no man's lands" where legal jurisdiction, police access, and so on can become complicated.
One such area became a troubled spot, with drugs, prostitution, and all kinds of illegal activity taking place there. Greater action took place once a beheaded body was found there in 2014.
