Sep. 1st, 2023 10:03 pmToday I am grateful for:
Bright and sunny, but a cooler temperature.
My Sweetie left for his MS bike ride today. It starts tomorrow.
I went to see River, and he was in a good mood.
I talked to R for a while, and she is crazy busy. Her husband has been unloading square hay bales, so she's been teaching his classes and her own, AND doing the dog grooming. She's had extra care for her horse whose eyes have been inflamed from the flies. She is just exhausted.
I worked with River on the things from the lesson; doing a larger circle to the right for our pattern, trying to use the softer neck rope (lighter cues mean better scores), and he did well.
We then rode outdoors in the arena, and I tried to do spirals in and out at the trot, and he seemed unwilling to bend much today, so I worked on just standing and giving his head to light rein cures and such.
I came home and let everyone out for a while.
My husband called around that time to let me know he got there safely.
I did know the Ringo Starr had a terrible childhood of poverty and illness, and he learned how to drum during one of his prolonged stays in an infirmary.
I didn't realize that George Harrison, while not ill all the time, also came from a fairly poor background, though that can be "relative" as I think many people in Britain were fairly poor after the second World War.
His family lived for a while in a terrace house with an outdoor toilet, though, that was likely not uncommon at the time.
What I somehow didn't know about, and I SHOULD have known, is that he was attacked in 1999 in his own home, and suffered FORTY stab wounds. How did I not know that?
"On 30 December 1999, Harrison and his wife Olivia were attacked at their home, Friar Park. Michael Abram, a 34-year-old paranoid schizophrenic, broke in and attacked Harrison with a kitchen knife, puncturing a lung and causing head injuries before his wife incapacitated the assailant by striking him repeatedly with a fireplace poker and a lamp."
Harrison had to have a punctured lung removed after the attack.

I also learned that George and his wife Olivia lived in a very lovely and eccentric home, on a 62 acre parcel of land that had caves and grottoes and underground passages.

Note: several different sources say he got forty stab wounds, including the Wikipedia page of George Harrison, while the Wikipedia page about Friar Park say "five stab wounds and a punctured lung". I would say the forty wounds is the accurate one, though maybe a lot of them were shallower cuts etc.
