Sep. 13th, 2023 02:56 amToday I am grateful for:
Sunny and moderate. Lovely Fall weather.
Yesterday I posted some ads on Facebook marketplace, seeing if we can sell some things like a pair of stock gates we replaced with a different pair, the windows that we took out of the house that are lovely old fir wood windows, and maybe someone can use them. The bike rack that my husband replaced with a different one because his bike frames are a different size. That kind of thing.
We got some interest at least in the stock gates today.
My Sweetie went to work again on the siding. He makes a bit of progress most days. I hope the weather holds so that he can finish it this year.
I went to see River.
I made some shiny "tinsel" hair extensions for the freestyle. They are meant for people, but the way you're supposed to use them is so TEDIOUS. A few strands of the tinsel crimped onto a few strands of hair. Then you wouldn't be able to re-use it when you took it out.
I made little bundles of the strands, done in such a way that I can use a rubber band (the tiny ones meant for doing braids on horses) to hold it, and quick to put in, easy to take out, and can be used again.
I put some in today, and they worked well, didn't bother him, and came out nicely. I should be able to use them many times.
River did well today on our work. We went through part of the freestyle pattern, he did well with it, so I left it there. No drilling.
Then we went outside and did some spirals at trot and canter, and he felt better as far as bending correctly, not tight and resisting so much.
I also feel like I left it in a good place, where I didn't over do anything, and left it on a positive note. I try very hard these days not to get "heavy" (anyone who has done any training, horse or dog or person, will know what I mean by that) and to pay attention to River's attention span, which can be different every day.
I came home, chatted with my Sweetie about the day's progress, brought the animals in from the pastures, rinsed some horse blankets I had soaking, and hung them up.
Then (since we are finished Schitt's Creek) watched a movie: "Gold", that was based on the real life events of the Bre-X company.
It was a decent film, and it's something to imagine that this more or less did actually happen. Quite a story.
I learned that in 1945, a U.S. air force bomber crashed into the Empire State building because it was trying to come in to land at the Newark airport, and the fog made it literally zero visibility.
The air traffic controllers advised against him trying to land there, as it meant having to navigate through the tall buildings in the heavy fog, but the pilot insisted.
