Sep. 17th, 2023 01:32 amToday I am grateful for:
More beautiful Fall weather.
My Sweetie made good progress on the siding, on the gable on the second floor.
I made more progress on the mulching. So. Much. Mulching. At least it is starting to look a bit the way I had hoped it would.
I spoke with Sister E for a while, and they are settling into the new place. She still feels that they have too much furniture for the small house, so it's a work in progress.
She's enjoying walking the dog in town.
Her adult son (40 years old-ish) is still angry at them for moving, because he loved the acreage. My sister feels that he doesn't seem to understand that her husband has a lot of serious health issues, and they really can't live in the country anymore. If he doesn't seem to understand this, I wonder what's going to happen when his father dies; does he not understand aging? You'd think he would want to spend time with his parents while he still can, whether they live on an acreage or in town.
I also spoke with Trainwreck, and it sounds like she is indeed selling her property to this guy who said he wanted it, BUT....drumroll....he mainly wants the big garage, and doesn't seem to care if she keeps living part time in the shitty trailer full of crap. Well, we'll see. I bet that at some point he'll care.
At least she's getting some money, though again, the deal sounds a little weird.
Some of her friends helped her get rid of at least all of the crap she had stored in one enclosed trailer so she can either use it to keep hauling stuff away or sell it. Likely she's going to store stuff in it, and keep it out there forever.
My whole day mainly consisted of catching up with my sisters and working on the mulching.
We watched "The Singing Detective", an older film with Robert Downey Jr. A fairly hard to follow story, but some interesting moments. Not horrible, could have been a lot better with a bit clearer narration.
I learned that many species of frogs cannot "throw up", but instead must more or less spit their stomach out and empty it like turning a pocket out. This is called gastric eversion, and other species also do this, including sharks.

Date: 2023-09-18 03:41 am (UTC)The fellow across the street lived in his house until he went, at the ripe age of 99. Apart from missing his beloved dog for the last 20 years, he did quite well.

Date: 2023-09-18 08:20 am (UTC)It's a very old trailer, the floor is rotting in the bathroom, the roof is not good, it has the old aluminum windows, and the furnace is on it's last legs.
Since my sister is unable to haul water on her own through winter (there is no well or town water system, so she relies entirely on a cistern, which means hauling a huge tank to town then using that to fill the cistern) she went through last winter not being able to use the toilet, or have running water to shower or do her dishes or do laundry. All of those things she went to my sister N's house to do (and sister N lives about 25 minutes away from TW).
It is so hoarded up that it is a health hazard, and TW has COPD, and will not be able to clear it out. Even if she did, it is deteriorating to where it is not a good place to live.
TW is only 62, but her health is so bad that she just should not be living there.
She's been talking recently about how if she does any kind of physical exertion at all, she almost passes out from the lack of oxygen in her blood stream. I'm worried about her now living in town, but still kind of living in this trailer, and her driving back and forth on those more or less empty roads to spend the night in the trailer. It sounds like if she even has to take out a bag of garbage or walk outside to find the cats she risks blacking out. If it's -30 C and something like that happens, she could die.
So, I know I can't control any of that. Nothing I will say will change what she does.
I for one, don't feel sad at all that she is selling her place, only sad that it sounds like the buyer is going to let her continue to live in the trailer as long as he gets to use the garage.

Date: 2023-09-19 04:16 am (UTC)TW is determined to live life as she chooses, which is not a bad thing for most of us. It may not be in her best interests, but freedom is what it is.

Date: 2023-09-19 07:17 am (UTC)It's just sort of the natural progression of things out in the country. You often hear of people deciding that it's "time to move to town", which is kind of how farmers finally retire.
Sometimes their kids take over things, but most of the time acreage people just have to sell the place to finance buying a house in town (unless their kids buy it). With farmers, if their kids take over the farm, they go into something almost like a reverse mortgage, where the kids pay them something out of the harvest every year, or when they sell cattle.
It is sad that Sister E and her husband have to sell their place, but they are in their 70's, and her husband has a lot of health issues. He pretty much can't be out in the country anymore; if he has a medical emergency it would take too long for an ambulance to reach them.
You're also right about TW, I can understand that she won't feel like the lodge is home. I'm sure very few people feel that way about living there.
