Sep. 23rd, 2023 01:51 amToday I am grateful for:
A little windy, but sunny and warm.
I needed to work with River some more with the trailer, so my Sweetie came with me.
River was a little jumpy, but he did settle down after I gave him some time to graze.
This time, we loaded him and tied him (with a quick release strap), and closed the divider.
He was a little bit concerned and wanted to back out, but with some coaxing I got him to stand still to close the divider. We loaded him this way three times.
I was just wrung right out afterwards, as I find all of this to be pretty stressful. He did well, it's ME who has to get more comfortable with it all.
I really appreciated my husband's help, and R came over and made sure we were doing okay, and I really appreciate that too. I'm doing my best to learn how to do this as well as I can, and I can really use whatever help I can get.
I did a small amount of liberty work with him, and then we just let him graze some more, and brought out the horse who is still staying in the barn to protect his eyes from the flies. We grazed them together for a while in the yard.
R's husband K gave us some home made tomato sauce and an apple pie. They've actually given us lots of food this fall, which is really nice of them.
We came home, let everyone out into their pastures for a while, and while they were out we worked on cleaning the goat/pony pen.
There was a huge build up of shavings/manure in front of their shed (we cleared the shed a while ago, so this is the ongoing cleaning project) that we hauled to the compost heap.
I think we are going to have to start spreading the rotted manure in the pasture or something next summer, because it's a lot more than we need for the garden.
Then we came in and watched a recent film of "All Quiet on the Western Front". It was very well done, and of course utterly horrifying.
I learned that "disco balls" were patented in 1917, and were commonly used in night clubs in the 1920's.
