Today I am grateful for:

Cool-ish, pleasant weather.

My Sweetie made a run to the dump, and picked up scaffolding from our friend on the way back. He needs the scaffolding for the upper half of siding the house.

He did pull a muscle in his chest yesterday, and it's really sore today.

A woman who wanted to buy a set of fireplace tools from us (I had it on marketplace) came today and did indeed buy them.

I mowed for a while, about an hour, on a part of the yard that's been too wet to mow for most of the summer. It was still a little wet at the bottom, but I really wanted to get to it before winter.

I also pulled a pail of carrots, brought them in and washed them up. They taste fantastic.

By then, it was time to get cleaned up. We went to a "comedy night" fundraiser for two local animal rescue groups.

We went to the riding barn because R was also going, and asked for a ride (it makes sense to car pool, we would go right by her place).

The coolest thing happened; we were waiting outside R's house for her to come out, and the house is not far from the pasture River is in. River came over to the fence and stared right at me while I was sitting in the car. The fact that he walked over to look is kind of cool, but he was WAITING for me.

We were also in my husband's new car, that he wouldn't recognize as "mine", I had my hair down and so on, and I was inside the car, and he recognized me.

Of course I got out and said hi to him and picked him some nice grass.

We went to the sports bar where the event was being held, and we met up with the Sunday rider. It was a little surreal to be at a non-barn function with them, all dressed in non-barn clothes, but it was really a nice evening.

It was at a sports bar kind of place, which was a good place to have it. It had a reasonable menu; nothing healthy at all.

The comedians were okay, not bad. The service for food/drinks was great. There were also silent auction items and so on.

R won a basket of nice food items, and among our group we all won our bids for silent auction items.

I bid fairly low on some jewelry, which I won the bid for. I'm not sure that I REALLY like it, it IS silver, but I'm not entirely sure upon closer examination if I will wear it much. It's a set, with what is likely faux amber. I might just sell it again? It's not a great loss as I didn't pay much, and it was for the rescue anyhow.

In a way, it was almost weird for me to have a night like that with my riding coach and another rider, the kind of thing you'd go do with good friends; hang out at a sports bar and watch the comedy act. I've always been on good terms with both of those people, but I never know anymore when a relationship becomes a friendship.

I learned that "galopego" means tortoise in Spanish.

The Galápagos Islands were discovered in 1535, but first appeared on the maps, of Gerardus Mercator and Abraham Ortelius, around 1570.[7] The islands were named "Insulae de los Galopegos" (Islands of the Tortoises) in reference to the giant tortoises found there.

So, they are the "tortoise islands". Naming the tortoises there "Galapagos Tortoises" is effectively calling them "Tortoise tortoises".
