Oct. 22nd, 2023 01:08 amToday I am grateful for:
Still very decent weather.
My husband FINALLY IS DONE the siding! We still need to see if we can get a contractor to do the soffits and fascia, which my husband would rather not do himself, but the actual siding is DONE!
Today we worked together to prepare some small areas, one open spot that used to be an access to our former septic system, a narrow strip between a concrete pad and our brick walkway, and some divots in a sidewalk that we then filled with concrete.
I let the animals out into their pastures for a while.
Then we pulled some beets and turnips out of the garden. We were leaving them there late on purpose, since we don't have perfect conditions to store them they will only keep for so long, but as long as they were in the ground they were fine. Until it starts to freeze, which is imminent.
Then we came in and watched more "Breaking Bad". We're on the last season now.
I learned that the "Pap Smear" is named for Dr. Andromachi Papanikolaou, who began doing daily swabs of his wife's cervix to track ovulatory cycles. Yes, that's right. His wife, for 21 years had daily cervical swabs to help him with his research.
Sometimes other friends would contribute to his research. When one woman was diagnosed with cervical cancer, Dr. Papanikolaou sent her swabs to a cytologist, who found cancer cells in her swab, thus establishing that cervical swabs could detect cervical cancer.
