Oct. 26th, 2023 02:53 amToday I am grateful for:
Cold, but not snowing.
My Sweetie did a bit of work on an overhang above the front door.
I changed the cat litter, and a few little chores like that.
We did a little pasture walk.
Then I went to see River.
I kind of brain-farted, and went to the barn for 5 (when I generally go for my ride times), kind of forgetting that I didn't need to be there until about 5:30 for my 6 o clock lesson.
I sat in my car and talked to Sister E for a while, and FINALLY I get her at a time when she can talk; the last several times I've tried, she's been in the middle of things and couldn't talk.
It sounds like they are doing okay in their new house in town. My sister walks a lot with their dog from the sounds of it. I hope they both find things they enjoy there.
I timed it pretty well to give me time to go get River and be ready for our lesson.
It looks like River might be buds with the new horse. They were off on their own today.
River was a bit edgy today again, though once again our riding time was right when they were getting fed.
He still behaved, but his mind was a bit elsewhere.
R had set up a pretty challenging obstacle course with a Halloween theme. I didn't realize that it was going to be today, as there was some encouragement to wear a costume. I wasn't really prepared for ANOTHER costume thing.
Anyhow, it was interesting, and had some different challenges, and we did it once using the bridle, and again doing the neck rope, and it was interesting to see which things were much more difficult for us.
Overall he did well, and it gave me some food for thought.
We did talk a bit about the trailering issues we've been having, and a potential thing to try.
I came home, and we made vegetable soup out of various left overs, and added some freshly cooked beets, and MAN, was it tasty! I have to do this more often. It wasn't that hard, but I just don't have the habit of making soup like I used to before I was a vegetarian. I used to make it all the time to make the best use of roast chicken. I wasn't sure how to make a good vegetable stock, but I did find a broth in a tetra pack that I like.
Then we watched more "Breaking Bad". We are nearly finished it.
I learned that the Oryx, an African ungulate, was introduced to New Mexico as an exotic game animal, but has become an invasive species.
I don't know, it's kind of cool.
