Today I am grateful for:

The weather is stable, at least. It's holding at a bit below freezing, but not awful.

My Sweetie got up before myself, and he went to town to pick up the mail in order that I should get my new phone case. My phone is old by many people's standards, though it is a smart phone with internet and so on. I always kept it in a "lifeproof" case, and I will tell you now, that was worth the cost. The phone itself is pristine.

We could not find another Lifeproof brand case for that model of phone, but my husband did find an Otter box, which is pretty tough.

My phone is with me most of the time when I ride, work outside, or go walking, kayaking (though the Otter box is not that water resistant), or just gets dropped repeatedly or knocked to the floor by the cats, so the case has to be fairly serious.

He also got his hair cut and a few other things.

Then he came home, and packed up and got ready for his long drive to see his parents.

I have a cool painting that I am sending with him for friends of ours. The story: one of these friends saw a painting he liked, and took pictures of it. Not even super good pictures. He got one of those pictures enlarged a bit, and hung it up. He's had it on his wall for probably 20 years now, this kind of blurry photo of a painting.

I decided to give it a try to make a version of that painting that he might like so that he could have an actual painting to hang (though I bet he'll still keep the other photo up).

I hope he likes it.

I went to see River after my Sweetie headed off to see his folks.

Once again, pretty much right as I went out to catch River, R's husband K went "Oh, you're here, that means it's time to feed the horses". REALLY?

My ride time is ALWAYS when the horses get fed, and it's just not fair to River. I'm there four days a week mostly, and he cannot miss four nightly meals because of me.

So, today, I just turned around and went back to the barn. I figured I could at least give him 20 minutes to eat without cutting into my time that significantly.

I made sure K saw me, to make a point. I'm not trying to pick a fight with him, but COME ON. Surely they must understand that I can't have him miss his evening feed going into winter. There's no grass left!

Anyhow, then I worked with River. Again his thoughts seemed to be on whatever was going on outside the arena, but he behaved. We made use of the Halloween obstacle course and went through it some more while mounted.

I did some Liberty work too.

We did something a bit different today. Something I've been working on, it's getting him to do a circle in front of me, without me being in the middle. It's not perfect, but he's beginning to get the idea. It's pretty cool, if this works!

Then I worked with R's project horse during the Friday person's lesson (she doesn't ride unassisted, so I can kind of work around her lesson). R has been working with this horse a bit this past week, and he's already comfortable doing some yields in groundwork, and he IS broke and has lots of the normal ground work, so he leads very nicely and has good ground manners.

I worked with him doing the obstacles, which R also did some work with, and he handled himself very well for a horse that really doesn't have much experience with them. Most horses need a LOT more exposure to these kinds of things before they will go anywhere near them.

I did a bit of in-hand trotting, and it's funny for me because he has a HUGE trot! Quite different from River and I's "granny trot".

The whole time I worked with this other horse, I left River in a stall in the barn with some food. If I had just put him out after our session, the food put out for the general herd would already be gone, so this way he got to eat some more.

It's already pretty chilly in the unheated arena, but I'm trying to toughen up. In a very short time it will be much colder.

Then I came home and watched "Fifty Shades Freed" just to say I did. I've watched the other ones, in order, and I figured why not.

Other than just SO MUCH SEX, it was really just okay, if that. It's fantasy. Money, cars, pretending that the money and cars isn't important and she's still going to keep working her old job even though she doesn't need to anymore, and dozens of other tired tropes.

I learned that whenever something big is happening in the U.S. that involved defense, the sale of pizza anywhere near the Pentagon soars. It's a predictor of serious world events.

That said, I also learned that the Pentagon has a food court. REALLY? You'd think that would be a security nightmare.
