Oct. 31st, 2023 11:20 pmToday I am grateful for:
Okay weather. Right at 0 C, so not bad.
Some of the recent snow is now gone again, for the time being.
We don't get any kids for Halloween at our place, so I didn't feel like I had to stay home to hand out candy.
My husband was with his parents at his sister's house, and they got about 60 kids, so it was fun for them to see all the costumes.
I did some dishes before I went to the barn.
Of course River was being fed right as I showed up, but he didn't seem too worried about the hay, and I figured that as long as I didn't work with him for TOO long, he'd still have lots to eat.
It was still nice enough that I could ride in the outdoor arena, so we did that. I worked on spirals in and out at the trot and canter, and improving the turn on hindquarters and side pass. Things I work on all the time pretty well.
A bit of Liberty work. Without a new pattern we're in a bit of a lull for goals, but that's okay. We "goaled" pretty hard for the recent freestyle pattern.
He did look to have lots of hay left to eat when I turned him out.
I spent some time snuggling with Earl the barn cat. He is quite old, and it makes me sad, but I'm glad I got a chance to know him. I'll just try to love him lots while the opportunity exists.
I came home and did some laundry, and did some very fussy work mending a light scarf (a thin one, not a winter one).
Then I caught up with my Sweetie for a while on the phone and we exchanged news about our day.
I learned that there is a family of languages called Austronesian, which includes the languages spoken in Madagascar, and follows mainly island nations all the way to Taiwan, New Zealand and the islands within Oceana. Madagascar and Oceana are half the world apart, but the languages traveled from one island to the next as humans colonized new land.
