Nov. 2nd, 2023 10:52 pmToday I am grateful for:
Okay weather, warm enough that most of the snow we got last week is gone now.
Just a super quiet day, not a lot going on.
I had a good phone conversation with Sister E, and it sounds like she's enjoying being in town with lots of options of things to do. Of course, she could have done those things all along; they only lived maybe 15 minutes outside of the same town where she lives now, but I guess mentally she feels differently about coming in to town for a fun class or to walk vs. the convenience of already being there.
Then I went for a short walk (about half an hour) at a park nearby (not the one we usually go to). It used to be someone's little farm and they donated it to the town for everyone to use. It's nice. Roxy enjoyed herself.
Then I came home, let everyone out into their pastures for a while, and walked some more with Roxy around the horse pasture because it was a nice evening.
I came in and had a bath to warm up.
I caught up with my Sweetie about his day. He and his parents met up with some of my Sweetie's younger cousins who now have kids that he hasn't even seen before, so that's nice.
I have to say, it seems like his family is all doing a decent job of meeting up with him and his parents this trip. It must be fun for his parents too, as they've likely done more socializing than they have all year.
I learned that the fuzzy fruit we associate with being grown in New Zealand (kiwi fruit) is native to China, and was brought to New Zealand by 20th century colonists.
There are many different kinds, some without fuzz, red ones, yellow ones, and small ones that are more like berries.

Date: 2023-11-03 10:11 pm (UTC)It just seems like it was a good time for my husband to visit his parents, in that other family seems to be in a good position geographically and time-wise to get together.
Some of the younger folks that were living in other parts of the country for school have re-settled in the Winnipeg area again, and he got to see them. Some of the older ones are now retired and have time to visit and are also now back in the geographic region for convenience.
He's been able to see his sister and three of her four kids, all three of his aunt/uncle groups on his Mom's side, and his God-daughter/cousin and her family. It hasn't all been on the same day, but pretty much every day he's been there he's had a get-together with another branch of the family.
It must be really nice for his parents too. You know how it is, his parents live there and somehow people don't make as much effort to get together, but one family member from out of town shows up and it's the reason they all need to make it happen.
I'm really happy for him, as family meant a lot to all of them when he was younger, and Christmas was a huge family gathering. Their Christmas isn't the same without the Grandparent's home to gather at, but hopefully times like this remind them all of how nice it is to be a family that gathers.
