Today I am grateful for:

Quite a nice day for this time of year. Above zero, warm, sunny.

The vet came today, a little ahead of schedule, to do Hollywood's teeth.

I've been trying to get them done every six months, as she has some ongoing un-evenness.

Everything went well, which is a great relief. Having her be sedated is always a bit of a risk, and she gets a little wobbly too.

The vet says we are catching up with some of the worst spots, which is good.

I had a phone conversation with Mom while I was making sure Hollywood was fully awake before letting her eat. Mom seemed content and in a good mood.

Then I went to town, to pick up the mail, and pay bills mainly, both of which were accomplished.

I was able to get the oil changed on my little car.

Then I went to the thrift store. I brought in two big bags full of mostly the clothes that my husband's sister sent (we looked through them, tried them on, kept a few things and sent the rest onwards). I had some things set aside, and my husband had made a pile of things he was ready to part with as well.

I found some really nice clothes, and I forced myself to put back quite a lot of it. I got some very nice things, though.

I came home and my Sweetie and I chatted for a while and ate. He's still not feeling rested, in spite of getting about 7 or 8 hours of sleep.

This ties in with what I was saying about his sleeping when he was home on "vacation", is that he was sleeping between 10 and 12 hours a night at times.

Makes you wonder if he isn't having some kind of issue with sleeping properly. Yet, every time I walk by the bedroom, it looks like he's knocked right out. He's not waking up ten times a night or anything.

Anyhow, he got to bed at a decent hour again, enough to get 7 or 8 hours hopefully.

I got a text from a friend in the city, the one I've been in seeing more of this summer, and her Mom is dying and she needs to go be with her. Her Mom is in another province, and my friend can't take her dog or her bunny with her, and needs someone to look after them.

She's also not sure how long she'll be gone. It could easily be a couple of weeks.

Well, anyhow, I told her we could help out. They can stay in the not quite finished porch in the addition that is heated etc., and we'd figure it out. The dog is small, and timid, and we'd have to see if it can integrate with the group or not.

Anyhow, it sounds like she doesn't really have anyone else who could take them with such an indefinite timeline, that she actually trusts.

She's coming out tomorrow, and we'll set up her bunny cage and see how things go. I just really don't want her to have to worry about how her animals are when she has to deal with her Mom's situation.

I learned that the town of Whittier, Alaska is dominated by a single tower of condominiums called the "Begich Towers". It was originally built to house members of the US Army Corps of Engineers working on development back in the 1950'. Not much other development took place.

Since then, it is more or less the main residential building for the roughly 250 people that live there, and is connected to most of the other public buildings. It has a post office, a grocery store, an indoor playground (though I believe that's inside a school that is connected to the Begich building), and other amenities to the degree that some residents scarcely leave it during the winter.
