Today I am grateful for:

Another decent day, temperature-wise.

I'm trying to get the care of my friend's animals to fit in with my daily chores, and it's a little odd trying to make a point of deliberately walking this little dog, since it cannot do as Roxy does, and exercise itself while I do chores outside.

I do take it out with me to feed the horses. Carefully.

The cats are a little stand-offish about coming to sit with me, due to the little dog often being in my lap already. They don't seem afraid of it, but I guess they don't want to share.

Mr. Bun continues to be uninterested in being social, so I guess that's just who he is.

I did still spend some time just sitting in his pen, in a non-threatening manner.

My Sweetie went to the city today to help one of our "work circle" friends put up a ceiling in his shop.

I went to see River.

In talking to R, apparently last night while we were all out having supper, her husband says one of the neighbors were setting off fireworks for something like an hour straight. All the horses were terrified, but they couldn't do anything about that. R had to go out, after our nice evening together as a group, to check on them and make sure there were no injuries.

The project horse, Quidley, had broken some of the clips on his sheet and was so worked up he was soaked with sweat.

In talking with my husband about it later, he wondered if the people setting off the fireworks were Indian, as there was an Indian holiday called Diwali that they might have been celebrating. I guess it could be that, since likely not a lot of people in Canada would otherwise have a party with fireworks on Remembrance Day.

I'm grateful that everyone was okay.

I worked on our usual groundwork, did a bit of new work on the "turn away", trying to see if we can do it at a trot, and so on.

The Sunday rider showed up, and I finished up my ridden work while she was there. I worked on trot and canter over poles, and River did well with that today.

My Sweetie showed up at the barn to help clean up, as the barn was right on his way home from helping his friend.

We came home and watched part one of a miniseries called "Colditz". It's okay, loosely based on real events.

I learned that author Roald Dahl worked with a toy maker to develop a brain shunt, after Dahl's son was in an accident that caused brain swelling, and the shunts at the time were flawed and would clog. The one designed by the author and the toy maker was far more effective, and has saved many lives. Theo did survive.

Roald Dahl also had a young daughter who died of measles, and I had posted about that some time ago. It prompted Dahl to be a strong public supporter of measles vaccination of children as public policy.

Seriously, read about this guy's life.
